This jacket feels like wearing a sleeping bag 24/7. It keeps me pretty dang cozy down to about 20 degrees (with layering) and seriously feels so much warmer than a typical length puffy. I highly recommend this down parka for style and performance, although it's more of an around town/camp item due to the length getting in the way while hiking/climbing/skiing. It'll be my go-to "nice" puffy this winter! The only issue I have had is that some of the feathers have already started escaping in the one month I have had this jacket. I am pretty hard on gear though.
Really comfy jacket. Like how soft and lightweight it is but still manages to keep me warm in the Canadian Rockies. Admittedly, I layer-up pretty well under it so I can get to about negative 10 Celsius (14 F); however, I don't think it will get me through much colder temps than that (which is fine as I wanted a shoulder season coat and this is serving that purpose well). I would also say it runs on the larger side: I went with a small but even with several layers under it, there's room (though I do have a slender build). Sleeve length is great for those of us with longer arms. Overall, you won't be disappointed. It's a lovely coat!
This coat is the perfect length and is a great thin (yet fluffy) and flexible warm coat. It is slightly fitted (still room for layers) and doesn’t make me look like a cylinder! Woo! It is not waterproof however, which was disappointing. The outer material does seem to dry quickly though. Since it is down, the coat will retain cold when wet and be thinner. If you avoid heavy rain it should be fine. When used for intended purpose it is 5/5. Bonus inner pocket with zipper.
I love how warm this jacket is! It's pretty great in the cold as long as the wind isn't too strong. My bigger hang ups have to do with the zipper and the durability of this jacket. The zipper can be pretty tricky to line up perfectly, so getting it zipped takes me a bit of time. The pocket zippers also sometimes catch on the material. For durability, I got a small bit of food on my jacket sleeve and went to wipe it off gently with a damp paper towel only to discover that tiny holes developed where I was gently wiping. Now I am seriously questioning how long this jacket will last me which is disappointing given the cost.
I recently purchased this coat after considering a similar coat by Kuhl (Spyfire or something like that). The Kuhl parka was too tight fitting. This Cotopaxi parka is a bit more generous, yet maintains nice lines; I can wear a sweater and vest underneath if needed. I like the water-resistant down and all the pockets - internal and external. I’m loving the extra length for added warmth. It has YKK zippers. I haven’t had it long enough to speak to the durability of zippers or seams or a true sense of it’s warmth as I’ve only tried it out in 40 degree (F) weather so far.
I love everything about this coat. The length is great, sleeves are long enough (and I'm 5'11" so I have long arms), and it's been very warm. Have worn it in 20 degree F weather so far and it has kept me warm. I like the 3 color stripes on it to make it stand out from many other down jackets that are just one plain color. The only slight negative is that I have a large-ish chest and it fits a little tight in the chest. But still fits comfortably even with a sweater under it. I just wish it was a teensy but roomier in the chest. Fit is amazing everywhere else so I wouldn't have wanted to go up another size and make it baggier everywhere else.
Honestly, quite disappointed in this jacket. My partner has a Fuego that she got several years ago, and the nylon is much thicker and the quality seems better than the parka I received. It arrived with a pinhole with several feathers sticking out/clumping up. REI's customer service was great and offered to send a new jacket. However, I feel like a single hike or brush up on a branch (or even a paper shopping bag rubbing the wrong way) will rip the new jacket. The fit and color is amazing and I love the style, just not sure it will hold up long term, especially in the outdoor elements that Cotopaxi advertises.
I was excited to get this coat, but it failed to perform in snowy conditions and the coat was already falling apart within about a couple weeks of use. I shoveled snow with it for about a week and took it camping for about 2 weeks. Firstly, if you get any wet snow on you, this coat will pretty much absorb it, leaving you wet and cold. It even didn't provide much warmth in dry, snowy conditions. Secondly, it was shedding feather constantly, and one day a rip appeared with a handful of feathers coming out, which I ended up patching up with medical tape. I think Cotopaxi really excels in producing outwear in fun colors, but the performance and quality is lacking to the point that I will probably be avoiding the brand for sometime. I have another jacket of theirs as well, and if it's lightly worn to run errands in a city or suburbs, without precipitation, it's probably ok.
This is, without a doubt, my favorite winter coat of all time. I live in a part of Alaska that gets super cold in the winter and was super skeptical about whether or not it would be warm enough because it’s not bulky, but this parka is awesome. Even in the -20 to -30 degree temp range, it holds up and keeps me warm. I sized up so I can layer under it, and that has worked out well. The sleeves are a great length, and because it’s not at all bulky, this coat offers great range of movement. It’s also a much better looking article of clothing than it looks like it’s going to be on the website.
Wasn’t sure if this was going to be warm enough for my Fairbanks Alaska trip but bought it anyway because it was such a nice color. It’s keeping me warm so far (15-30 degrees) but like the other reviewer said the down feathers seem to escape a bit and I’ve only worn it less than five times.
