Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

I bought a few of these shirts for my husband. He's worn each of them a handful of times, sometimes hiking, sometimes just around the house. After not very much use, they have all started to develop holes in random places -- armpit, chest, back. The first one it happened to, I repaired all the holes I could find. Next time he got it out, there were just as many new holes!! He just got out a newer one of these yesterday that he's only worn once, and it too is developing holes!! He also owns a couple Smartwool shirts, but those have remained hole-free. I have the women's version of this shirt, and they've held up well. Not sure what's up with the men's version disintegrating like this, but would not recommend!!
Was able to wear this for 2 weeks traveling and hiking through the Swiss Alps. Great odor protection from the wool, no need for more than a rinse in the sink along the way. The baselayer breathes well enough to be worn through a light rain, or as a little extra sun protection in cool weather, breathes very well. Didn't have any issue with skin irritation, which I sometimes experience with wool. Everything that you want in a wool base layer. I will say that this shirt runs large. I generally wear a small in base layers and this one was a little baggy out of the box. It will shrink if you machine dry it. Since it was a little baggy on me, I did machine dry it and it fit perfectly afterward.
Every single time I wash this it comes out just falling apart. It’s done this every single time. For that one reason alone I can’t endorse this.
To me a base layer really has to serve two masters. It's primary function is obviously to be the next-to-skin thermal layer under something else. To serve this purpose it has to be pretty close fitting, comfortable, and allow a full range of motion. It also has to maintain a comfortable temperature as conditions change, as while you unzip or remove other layers, presumably this one is staying with you all day. This shirt does all this. The merino is soft and doesn't get funky. The trickier thing that, in my opinion, a base needs to do is to be able to worn by itself. This shirt nails that. It is close fitting but doesn't look like gym-wear if you stop at a trailside establishment and take off your fleece. The seams that run along the tops of the arms took a little while to get used to - I kept thinking that the sleeves were twisted, but it does add to the style of the garment. This shirt was perfect for spring hiking in the Grand Canyon where mornings started out frosty and ended up in the mid-sixties. I continue to be amazed at the versatility of wool and compared to some other producers of shirts of similar quality, the price on this one is more reasonable.
I've had this shirt for about a year now. Currently buying a second one. This is what I love about it: 1. I can wear it for nearly 2 weeks before it smells the same as a regular shirt worn for one day. Merino wool is antimicrobial magic. And this is 100% merino wool, unlike many other "merino wool" shirts out there. 2. It looks flattering on me. I don't have as big of muscles as the models, but the muscles I do have are well defined in this shirt. For reference, I'm 5'11", about 165 lbs, and I wear a medium. I have tried merino shirts from Smartwool and Icebreaker (overpriced), and those ones always looked too big and saggy on me. 3. It has been extremely durable. After about a year, it only has a couple tiny loose threads around the bottom. Compare that to a similar shirt I got from "Wooly" (absolute garbage), which fell to tatters after only a couple washes and is basically a rag now. 4. It seems to be stain-resistant. Granted, it is black, so stains would hardly show up anyway. But compare that to the merino shirts I got from Icebreaker, which became permanently stained and thus essentially unwearable after only a couple washes. Possibly due to Icebreaker's inclusion of Lyocell in the fabric blend, which stains very easily. 5. It is comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. I would wear it by itself from ~50-70 degrees Fahrenheit, and any colder than that, it works great as a base layer under a sweater, coat, etc. 6. Due to all of the above qualities, this shirt is extremely useful for traveling. Especially if you're traveling light or traveling continuously for a long time. Thank you REI and whoever designed this shirt!
I hate the half zip version of this baselayer, but the crewneck is great. I run hot so I like that it's thinner than the smartwools I looked at on the rack nearby in the store. It's also like half the price. The half zip has a tall neck that's too tight, especially if your midlayer also has a high neck. Crewneck doesn't choke me and lets me comfortably zip my other layers up fully. When I'm sweating it doesn't make me feel soggy like synthetic baselayers do, especially on the drive home. I've only used it for less than 10 snowboarding days over the last winter, but it's held up perfectly fine so far. I wash it in the machine on gentle with a wool-specific detergent and airdry it.
The 185 weight is a perfect middle of the road base layer. Heavier (and warmer) than the 150 but not as heavy as 250. I also like the larger choice of colors. These two features provide an alternative to Smartwool. My only complaint is the collar. Instead of a nice crew collar snug up against the base of my neck, this shirt has a wide collar exposing a lot more skin and edges of collarbone. Not sure why it is designed like this. This feature is not accurately portrayed in the photograph so I recommend trying one on before you buy.
Yes! This shirt is as awesome as I was hoping it would be. First, it fits very well. I usually wear a large and the large is exactly right. I'm around 6'0, 185lbs. The arms could be 1/2 inch longer, but it's not a huge problem for me. Second, the wool is wonderful. It feels good next to my skin. I wore it on some 75 degree summer days and didn't overheat. It's also nice on cooler days. Third, it doesn't keep in stink! One time I wore it for over 2 days and it still didn't smell badly. Finally, I really like the red/orange color. Five stars for sure!
I've been limping through each ski season(brutal days aside!) with the same REI silk weight top since 2009 because I couldn't find another base layer to come close to the same 'I forget it's there' type of feel. Bought this one and am finally never looking back. The feel on bare skin can not be beat for the amount of warmth it provides. It kept me warm during a couple of days skiing Jay Peak in the teens so far, so it's no slouch when it comes to warmth. I can finally retire my stinky, holy, best base layer knowing I've got a solid replacement. Once you go Merino, you never go back...
I love the feel of the shirt as well as the overall cut. I would prefer maybe a slightly less boxy shape and a little more tailored perhaps. You cannot beat merino for the odor free quality and I would typically wear this for 3 straight days on a hike, around town, etc before thinking of laundering it. The overall complaint if the collar. It is just two big. The same is the case for the REI Co-op Merino short sleeve t-shirts. After a day of wear the collar get stretched even more to the point I feel like I am wearing a poncho.
