Last season, I decided I wanted to learn how to ski. Mind you - I grew up an hour southwest of New Orleans, so this Cajun girl has no snow experience. I bought this jacket because I liked the ability to tailor my warmth based on the weather... no regrets in that department. But what's really impressive is that this jacket has held up to my 2nd season. And I've bounced off trees like a plinko (long story), crashed, skidded, and slid down the trails. 😂 No serious injury to me (other than very impressive bruising) and NO wear or tears on this jacket! You need pockets for tissues in case you're crying down an accidental blue run? This jacket's got you covered. Concerned that another brutal encounter with a tree might cause your lift pass to fly out of a pocket? The left arm's got a clip to keep that sucker on you. Need your iPhone to listen to calming meditations as you're gliding up the lift? No worries - there's an inside pocket for that as well. Shaking cause you're afraid you won't remember how to make a left turn? Can't blame it on the cold cause this baby's warm and waterproof! If it can last through the brutal season I put it through then I can highly recommend it to any newbie or non-newbie. And now that I've got some lessons behind me, I'm entering Season 2 feeling confident that I (at the very least) look stylish as I'm making my way down the mountain.

The jacket seems to be nicely made however the sleeves are way too long and seems bulky. Cinching the velcro at the bottom of the sleeve did nothing to help and actually made it look awkward. Based on the size chart, I ordered a large but easily could have gone with a medium which is typically the size I wear and is what I probably should have ordered. There is no point in doing an exchange as the sleeve length is the same for large and medium, plus it would likely still be too bulky. I am petite (5'1") so that obviously contributed to the sizing issues.

nearly indestructible

I have had this jacket now three winters. I have trekked through snow and rain, mountain forest and brushland. I have been many times attacked by blackberries in this jacket, and yet the jacket remains unscratched. I even, in a moment of panic, beat out a grass fire with this jacket. I thought 'I've ruined it for sure this time', but after a double wash, no kidding, it looks (Almost!) as good as the day I bought it. I thought it was expensive when I bought it, but now I think it was cheap. Impeccable quality and durability.

My Favorite Jacket!

Great jacket, keeps me warm but not hot. Very comfortable and stylish. I wish the liner jacket had a better button or loop to keep it attached to the shell when taking off at times. Thinking of having it added. I would highly recommend!

I wanted another one, but…

686 makes my favorite jacket and I’m due to replace my current one. This style (with liner detachable/built-in) is my favorite, especially because it’s by 686; but this particular style doesn’t fit me well, so I have to return it, sadly. Overall, the fit works well for me, except for the area around the chest. It’s a bit too snug when I try to cross my arms and wasn’t very comfortable. I tried to size up to a medium, but it was way too long and big, and I still had a similar issue around the chest. Any chance you can make a more relaxed fit for next season, please? I need a new jacket and haven’t been able to find one that I like. :-(

Hi Nini Thank you for your email. While we don't currently produce this jacket relaxed fit you are requesting, we do capture this feedback to share with our Product team as we continue to look into expanding our line. Please note that we are at least a year away from being able to introduce new sizes into our line. Thanks Rocio

Everything I was looking for - but

Everything I was looking for - warm, lightweight, water proof, and, especially, the most and best organized pockets in the inner shell! But the sleeves are wide to accommodate ski gloves. The tightest velcro cinching was still far too loose. I considered altering the sleeves but decided, for the price, I did not want to risk damaging the waterproof material. If you do outdoor activities that involve heavy gloves, this is your jacket.

Not warm. I felt cold in 40 degree weather

It’s a great coat, well made and I love all the pockets. Here is my issue, it is not warm. I purchased this for an upcoming trip to Alaska, as it’s rated the “warmest”; however it failed to keep me warm in 30 degrees. Pretty nervous about its ability to keep me warm in the Alaska winter temps.

Super happy with this purchase!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This coat is everything I hoped for! It’s stylish, flattering, offers great mobility, and has lots of options for pockets and storage. I love the 3 in 1 feature so much. The sleeves are fuzzy and feel so nice and warm. I live in southeast Alaska where the winter is very wet and windy. This coat is perfect for those conditions since it’s waterproof and wind proof. I never get cold with this coat on. I love that it has vents incase you start getting a little too warm. I am I big fan of the design. The adjustable cuffs are great. I also really enjoy the detail on the collar. I’m wearing the inner layer jacket right now. It is so cozy. I absolutely would recommend this! My girlfriend and I both have 686 coats and we love them.

Not warm!

Purchased this for my upcoming trip to Alaska as it was rated the “warmest” in its description. This coat failed to keep me warm in 40 degree temps in my home town. Pretty nervous about how warm I will be in the Alaska winter temps.

Warm parka. Like the color.

I’m 5’5 123 LB. I needed the XSmall. The parka is very warm. I need a steamer to get some of the wrinkles out. Overall I’m very happy.
