The high waistband makes these very comfortable and they are very warm; however, after wearing them for one ski trip, they ripped at the seem between the legs before ever being washed.
Pros: They fit/conform nicely & comfortably due to the contoured piecing. The high waist keeps your lower back covered. Flattering but who will see them? Wool for warmth. Cons: The black/contrasting fabric on the sides is noticeably thinner than the jacquard sections when you hold it to the light and when you test them outside. The manufacturer tag does not specify that they are "light wgt". Trying several brands at the store, I must not have had them on long enough to evaluate itchiness, which seemed obvious once I tried them at home. Verdict: For the price, they need to be perfect
The first thing I pack when I’m heading out for an adventure are these long johns. I like to be warm so this works for everything from 0 to 50 especially if it’s rainy or snowy. No one else sees these but if it’s a group camping situation and you might get your coffee before getting dressed, they provide coverage and are good pajamas. Sporty?Check.Girly? Check. Fun? Check. I have another pair of these from 5 years ago that these replaced. This fabric washes great, wears great, still bright and cheery for many year!
For years I've been searching for a high-waisted wool base layer and at long last I have found a pair! For those of us with a larger hip-to-waist ratio or anyone with wider hips or longer torsos, high waisted styles are a must for keeping layers tucked while active. It has always seemed strange to me that there are now so many high-waisted active legging options but none in the traditional base layers and fabrics that are so necessary for colder climate recreating. Now to the pants themselves... They are wonderfully comfortable and I find them to be true to size (size 31 in jeans and the L fit perfectly.) They are lightweight but warm for their thickness. The only potential negative I see so far is that although the waist is nicely reinforced there is no sturdy waistband as on other pairs of Kari Traa base layers. The waistband is very comfortable, wide and smooth, but time will tell if it will hold up to active use or stretch out. Fingers crossed Kari Traa will come out with some of the previous colors so I can get a pair to match my Rose top in 'Marin'!
I've been looking for a base layer pants that are high waisted with a comfortable waist band and I've tried several without success. These are actually high waisted and have a comfortable waist band that doesn't dig in. I have a lot of back pain and these are the first comfortable pair of base layer pants I've found.
I LIVE IN THIS SET!!! These are the best merino wool base layer pants! It’s so hard to find high waist base layers and Kari Traa nailed it with this base layer! The high waist is so comfy and flattering and I love that it’s a thicker waistband too. I got the fuscha (pink) color and it is so pretty and vibrant! It’s perfect for lounging, skiing, and apres-ing! I’ve never gotten so many compliments, 100% recommend and will be getting in every color! I got in a small and sizing is true to size.
I've worn these leggings a LOT over the past two years and they're just now starting to get a few small holes in them. they've kept their shape and fit, and are the most comfortable leggings ever: form-fitting but not tight and squeezing. Wish I had bought five pairs at this price, as I can only find them now on the maker website for $110 each. But I love them so much I'm gonna spring for it, knowing how well they last.
Bought yellow and it was warm and very cute but fully see through. I wanted to use as a base layer and also something I could wear out in the mountains but it’s so sheer you can even see a light tattoo I have through it.
Cute design, great fit and quality. Material was great - soft, not otchy and most of all kept me warm.
