Solid and Dependable Carabiner
This carabiner is a solid addition to the rack. The rounded shape allows the the rope to run through it smoothly, so makes it great for hitches. It's not the lightest in its class, but it's also not the heaviest, and I can't help but be reminded of old-school biners when using it, but I dig it, and will keep this as a go-to piece for me. I'll probably get another so I have a pair to work with. As with all locking carabiners, it would benefit from having a red band around the screw gate sleeve as a visual indicator that it's locked. Other than that, this is a cool little carabiner and one that I will happily keep using.
Light and smooth HMS
I have several of the PearLock carabiners and they are my preferred HMS locking carabiner. They are lighter, though a bit shorter and narrower, than the Black Diamond RockLock carabiner, but I do not consider their smaller size a disadvantage because their gate width is a bit wider (22 mm vs 21 mm) and basket width are nearly the same while they are much lighter (76 g vs 89 g), which is a must when you are carrying several. The PearLock's basket is more curved than the RockLock's, but there is still sufficient width for belaying two ropes or tying two clove hitches. They both have round sections for the rope to slide over for tube-style belay devices, a necessity in my opinion. Other HMS carabiners do not have a round cross section on the rope handling end, which I think imparts too much friction and makes lowering top rope climbers or rappelling rather jerky. If I need additional friction, I carry other non-HMS carabiners with a more angular cross sectioned basket.
Great carabineer
I bought it for my camping hammock, pretty sure I misused it. I used it one time it helped up my hammock and I left it at the camp site. I liked it while I had it.
average locking carabiner
the pearlock screwgate carabiner is smaller than my current locking biner that i use for belaying. it's relatively lightweight but there are some aspects of it that i don't love. the gate opens straight back and has a smaller opening so i won't be using it primarily for belaying as i prefer a bigger opening. the lock is designed to not to clamp on the nose preventing lockup once weighted but i find that i often question whether it's been screwed all the way. there is significantly more play even once screwed down on this biner than other lockers i have. i believe petzl has one that has a red line indicator. some feature like that would give me more immediate feedback. the weight and pear shape are nice for use in anchor system other than the previously mentioned critique of the screw down.
Great when you need that feeling of security
I've used my black diamond carabiner to attach my bow lines when towing my boat and I have used it to attach my hammock when resting. Both times I was able to relax with the confidence knowing that Carabiner would not open.
Great carabiner
Not a huge climber but I found this to be super handy as a camping tool and general everyday use carabiner. I had a bag strapped to the outside of a jeep down a trail with just one of these and there was no issue. I also use it to attach my heavy hydro flask to my daily work bag and it fared great. The construction is solid and very well executed. Screw threads fit nice and tight and the knurled finish on the slider feels fantastic. My example was in the blackout colorway and the coating was very well applied and shows no signs of wearing off so far. Honestly through how I've used this I wouldn't be surprised if you could use this and some rope to tow a car (not a smart idea, not safe, but you get my point)
Excellent caribiner
This is a great caribiner. Smooth operation and works as it should. Feels like sturdy construction that should hold up to the test of time. I love the beginners guide it comes with. Great product!
Great heavy duty carabiner
Although I didn't use this for it's intended purposes, it has served me well in various adventures. First, I used it to just group a bunch of stuff together and used it as a handle. My husband thought I was nuts but it held everything I needed (Keys, small bag and a gallon water bottle) together. That was super easy work but I challenged it further by using it as part of my hammock setup for a few days. It held up great, even w/ 500 lbs in the hammock. Anyhoo, this fit the bill and will be used on an upcoming thru of the AT as part of my backpack and hammock setup.
love the rounded pear shape!
Super great carabiner. About the size of the older BD orange screw gate pear biner. Bought because I wanted a smaller sized locker with a rounded top. It’s extremely lightweight, the screw gate has given me zero issues so far.
