Better than a Prusik
Very low weight and excellent holding power. I tested it in a gear haul setup with 2 additional pulleys and a 200lbs sack. The cam locks instantly, there is no slip from engagement. The teeth hold tight, but are easy to release if needed. 10.4mm rope is a little snug. There was some drag when the rope does not come out parallel.
Nice complement to Micro Trax for F&F and TR solo
My top rope solo and fix and follow system now consists of one of these on the bottom, and a Micro Trax on the top. The Nano is on the bottom of a 2-locker QD and has no keeper thread. The Micro is on a single locker.and has a keeper thread that clips to my neck elastic. There's room for a Grigri in between for transition to rappel. Because the Nano can't lock open and the Micro can, and because the Micro is less fiddly to set up and take out, the combination is both safe/redundant and easy to use.
An excellent backup and companion to the Micro
Ok, I'll admit it, when I first got my hands on a Nano Traxion, my first thought was...why? Why do I need this? The Micro version is already really small and light. The Nano is 30g or 1 ounce lighter than the Micro. Not really a big deal unless you are carrying several backups. Both the Micro and Nano have high quality sealed bearings with 91% efficiency however, smaller pulley wheels are inherently less efficient than larger wheels so keep that in mind. It's physics (I'm an engineer.) Both the Micro and Nano accept 7-11mm dynamic rope but the Nano works better in narrow carabiners. If you use too large of a carabiner, larger diameter ropes can get stuck because of the clearance distance between the pulley, carabiner and the rope. Most of my carabiners are larger. Petzl's Sm’D carabiner would work much better with a Nano Traxion. Other things I noticed - Stiffness of the Nano cam spring is much stronger than the Micro. That can be both good (safer) and bad (ease of ascending). I think that if you are top rope soloing, you'd be a little safer with the Nano because you can't deactivate the progress capture function on the Nano like you can the Micro. For me personally, I think the Petzl Nano Traxion is an excellent choice to always have with you as a backup. If you are practicing safe climbing, you always need a backup. As always with my Scout Troop, it's SAFETY FIRST!
Great piece of gear to always take a long
Pretty impressive how small they have managed to make this pulley. That being said, there are a few tradeoffs for that small size. The pulley bearing is slightly smaller radius than the micro pulley. I didn't actually notice a real difference in hauling gear with the slightly smaller radius though. It also does not have the cam locking feature like the micro if you need that functionality. Being so small, it can be a little awkward to handle with gloves or if you sometimes fumble with smaller gear. That being said, I would recommend this to everyone that uses ropes in the outdoors! The added safety factor at such a negligible weight and size can't be beat. There was a local canyoneering death recently where this tiny piece of gear would have dramatically changed the outcome and saved a life. The build quality is the expected flawless quality of Petzl and should last for many adventures. As a note, the color is more orange/red than the orange/gold as shown in many of the pictures online.
super light
This is a super small pulley that has fewer features than the larger ones, which is a tradeoff for lighter weight. I would consider carrying this on certain trips to have as a backup since it doesn't add much weight, but if I were actually going to be doing a lot of hauling, I would go for something with better mechanical advantage. But easy to use and light to carry.
great multi use pulley
This thing is super nice for rigging random stuff. Makes hauling super easy and can even be used as an alpine ascender. I’ve beaten it up pretty good and it still works like I bought it today. Another great petzl product!
Perfecto
This pulley is nice and light and smooth. Perfect for any crag
