For soft ground, but not sand

These are well known ground stakes for soft ground. They are basically the Orangescrew technology which is regarded as very good for soft ground. I really don't know why these are rebranded as "Neso with Orangescrew technology", because they are the exact same, just a different color. The company makes two sizes but REI only carries one size (the small). Unfortunately I bought these for beach/sand camping and they won't work. I bought them first and then learned there are two sizes. I checked with Orangescrew who does not recommend these for sandy soil. They said the larger size is for sand. These would be good for grass or maybe loamy soil. But I already have metal screw pegs for that. So these will have to go back and I'll order the large size from somewhere else. But for the intended purpose, I think these are supposed to be really good.

Good for wind, looser soils, mud, exposed toes

These stakes excel in windy conditions that would yank ordinary stakes out of the ground. Don't expect these to hold in dry, loose sand. They do work well in wet/compacted sand, loamy soils, small gravel, and mud that hasn't become super-saturated. Caution: points are quite sharp and will penetrate other gear, so I now store mine in a ditty bag that has a plastic container in its bottom (grated Italian cheese) to prevent damage. Bonus: the rounded tops don't destroy your camp footwear (or bare toes).

Great solution for windy beaches

We use these with our Neso Grande Sunshade or Tommy Bahama Beach Umbrella when the wind kicks up. The great part is that as everyone else is closing up (or chasing after) their umbrellas you can continue to enjoy the beach. I have only used these on the beach and found them very easy to use and surprising light weight. They would probably do well in grass/turf too as long as the ground isn't too hard or dried out. ON the beach: 1) Just scoop out a little hole in the sand (about 10 inches or so) 2) Then twist them in at a 45% angle away from the umbrella or sunshade and fill in the hole. 3) I use paracord to attach them to the umbrella (with a slip knot to make it easy to adjust) the tension. 4) If you want to go "expert mode" then add a couple of tarp clips to make connecting to the Sunshade or Umbrella even easier (e.g. search amazon for Tarp Clips Heavy Duty Lock Grip and Paracord Tent Ropes) We most recently used this setup on the beach in Maui where the wind would get really ferocious in the afternoon. We had a number of people stop by and ask us about our solution as we continued to enjoy the shade and wind while everyone else had to take their umbrellas down or chase after them. I will add some photos to help explain. Just keep in mind that the Neso Ground Screw Stakes are buried in the sand so you can't see them but trust me they are there and were much better than the alternative of trying to find sticks or rocks to tie the lines to.

A must have for beach camping

Great for pitching the tent in sand! A week-long camping trip on Assateague, and the screws held firm.

Happily Amazed!

I have had my Neso Grande for a little over a year and wanted to be able to set it up at the park and at home for the kids. These stakes are amazing! They screw so easily into the grass that you think they won’t hold but they do! Would definitely recommend these!

Works really well

These ground screws are great and work in so many situations. The hold is solid. I have used the original orange ones from Orange Screw for a few years and was so cool to see a collaboration between these two great brands for a black version!

Plastic

Returning these because I didn't realize that they are made from plastic. Was wanting metal in hopes that would help in tough, rocky terrain.
