Great Value and performance
We own a pair of these in almost every size now. I have two daughters that climb recreationally with me, both on our home wall, at the gym and occasionally outdoors. These shoes are easy on and off, comfortable and seem to have sufficient grip for the level of climbing most kids are engaging in (non competitive that is). Size them up when new, and have your kid wear socks, you will get substantial mileage out of each pair. Retire them when your children complain of any kind of pain. Kids feet are constantly growing, dont risk long term damage to their feet by locking them in a too-tight shoe. Especially very young children whose bones are malleable. Im 40 and my feet are destroyed from climbing shoes. Keep your kids feet healthy. Have them walk barefoot before and after (and in between) climbing sessions to stretch their feed out. Climb on!
Great kids' shoes but size up at least two sizes
I bought these for my kids who started rock climbing 6 months ago and they've been great shoes. They're comfortable enough that my kids are happy to wear them walking to and from the rock climbing gym, but ugly enough that they don't want to wear them anywhere else! That saves the wearing out on the sidewalk! Make sure to try them on in store if you can because the sizing is tiny. I had to size up at least 2 sizes for each of my girls. My 11 year old wears a size 2 in street shoes but a 4 in these, and my 8 year old wears a 12 in street shoes and a 2 in these. Unfortunately both of my kids had a growth spurt and need to size up after 6 months. No problem for my younger kid, but as size 4 is the largest size these come in I'll need to find a new brand for my older kid.
Not the best kids shoe.
These shoes seem well built, but they aren't the best child's climbing shoe I've seen. There isn't really any room for adjustment like most kids shoes, so they fit more like what an adult would wear. If you know kids and their level of climbing, an adult shoe isn't really what they need. They need comfort and something that will fit a growing foot for more than a few months. Even the material is fairly stiff and doesn't stretch much in any direction. I love Black Diamond gear, and love the shoes for adults, but I don't think I would recommend these shoes for kiddos.
Great little shoes, but make sure to try them on
My daughter says these are comfy and easy to put on and take off. I'm sure they climb as well as she would notice. They're cheap enough that when she outgrows them, we aren't trying to get her to wear them tight. But they're plenty durable to pass on to other kiddos when we're done with them. All good. The one thing to be aware of is that sizing is a bit funky. My daughter wears a bigger size than her street shoes or last pair of rock shoes would indicate. Make sure you try them on. But that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has ever bought rock shoes. You always need to try on rock shoes. Just because they're kid shoes doesn't mean you can break that rule. Try them on, get the right size, go family climbing. Super fun.
Great product - be sure to size up.
I have two pairs of these for my daughters. My 7 year old usually wears a size 1 in street shoes but she wears a 3 in these. They were initially tight but they’ve broken in well. My three year old wears a 7T in street shoes but we got her the 11’s in these. They’re slightly loose but work out well with socks - plus she can use them longer considering kids’ feet grow like grass. Both girls really like climbing in these shoes and they have helped turn climbing into a family sport. They don’t cause blisters as bad as the rental shoes do. Highly recommend!
Runs a bit small
I got a pair of these in size 2 for my 7 y/o son who wears 1.5 in Nikes. These were SNUG with no room to spare. I expect that we will need to size up before the end of the year.
Great quality kids shoes at a fair price.
For me these came to about the equivalent of 9 rentals, so I went with buying them. They definitely have a pronounced shape and fit the way an adult would want them to fit. For my 4yr old, the tightness detracted from him wanting to wear them at his street shoe size. He is wearing a toddler 11 in street shoe, and the toddler 13/kids 1 was about what he needed to be comfortable and just have fun climbing.
Climbing shoes for my daughter
I bought theses shoes for my 6 year old daughter. For a quality climbing shoe with a comfortable fit these are perfect. I needed something that she could comfortably wear and not make her not want to climb. Something that has some firmness and good rubber grip and these were perfect. The price is what I would expect and for a child who climbs once to twice a month these were just right.
size is terrible
Just bought this for my daughter. I went 2 sizes up but I feel I still need to go up anther 2 sizes.
Nice shoes, small!
Shoes seem like they are a good option for kids. My daughter is pleased and climbing well when she wears them. They run small! She wears a sz 13 and we ordered a 2 with plans to wear with socks and hope they will last a year. No way- the 2 is a great fit now but will not last as she grows. Size up!
