The pretense: I have had a pair of Patagonia baggies shorts for several years and I’ve always felt like they fell just a little short of what I was looking for. I love that they can be used as swim trunks as well as a normal pair of everyday shorts, but I’m a college athlete and I need some stretch in my shorts. These shorts basically are everything I like about the baggies and they fix all of the things I don’t love. They have stretch! Not too much to where it makes them unusable as swim trunks, but just enough that I’d feel totally comfortable working out in them. Also, the pockets are a more traditional size, which means I don’t have to put my hand in up to my elbow to reach something in the bottom of the pocket. And the zipper back pocket is a big improvement on the buttoned pocket on the baggies. Only thing I don’t love is that the strings are maybe a tad bit short, and don’t stay tied with lots of motion, but I only really need them tied while I’m jumping in the water so that doesn’t bother me. I am 5’11”, size 32 waist and I ordered a size M which fits perfect. I just ordered my second pair!
Love these shorts!
These shorts are great. One of my two “go to’s” for the gym and casual days. The fabric is light weight and comfortable. They look and feel great. Good fit and cut, although slightly roomier than I need/prefer. They’re roomier / slightly longer than the picture I attached (have them hiked up for leg workout). A bit roomier than the 5.5” printed swim trunks which have the perfect fit. Definitely recommend and plan on buying another pair!
worth the money
I’ve always been looking for good looking casual shorts that I can swim in. I own Patagonia baggies and they’ve been ok. They’re much more functional as swim trunks than shorts to wear while socializing. These chubbies look good for most occasions while not appearing to look like swimwear. I’ll probably buy another pair or two and get rid of all my other shorts.

I love chubby’s shorts. My only problem with these were that I ordered a XL and (because I have a big butt) the shorts were extremely tight everywhere but the waist; enough to see the pickle imprint. So I went one size up to XXL and now the shorts are longer and way over sized. I was looking for a lounge wear/ athletic(no lining) type material for hot days. The shorts offer that, but I wish the sizes were a little closer. Still great shorts that I would recommend, my issue is with the sizing.
Perfect workout / casual short
5.5” is the perfect length. They feel slightly longer than the cotton Chubbies, but maybe that his because they are workout stretch material. They are nice and wide for muscular thighs. They have just the right amount of stretch. They are more breathable than other synthetic shirts I own. The draw sting ends are made of metal and appear to be more durable than the typical plastic shrink wrap ends. I am already considering ordering another pair.
Amazing Shorts
I am obsessed with these shorts! I've been on the hunt for a great pair of gym shorts and I ordered my first pair a few days ago and received them this morning. I wore them to the gym and they are literally everything I've been looking for. They are light weight, comfortable and show just the right amount of leg. Everything I've been looking for! I just ordered another pair! Thank you!
My new go-to shorts - very pleased!
These are my new go to shorts. They are lightweight, soft and perfect shade of blue. They aren't binding but not baggy either. You can wear them just about anywhere; not just the gym. Follow the size chart for your best fit. I normally would wear Large but the size chart advised Extra Large and they're perfect. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Too boxy, its very unflattering.
Too boxy, its very unflattering. Legs are too long when standing but bunch up too short with any movement. Fabric is uncomfortable. I would have returned them but I bought them on sale so returns weren't accepted. Even at the sale price, more than i wanted to pay. I will not be a repeat customer.
Swim/Swim
These are pretty basic: light but tough and in a good goes-with-anything color. Have zero doubt they dry quickly and are good for swimming. The missing star is for the disproportionate crotch length (a bit long) and the overall material seems a little stiff/scratchy for cardio/active gymming.
Great Fit
Fit as expected. Very comfortable to wear, pockets are great for land travel. Looks good with tee shirt as casual wear. They are not lined so needed to wear underwear to prevent “fall out” while setting. If you have large thighs and legs of shorts fit snug, this may not be an issue for you.
