Poor Craftsmanship. Definitely wasted my money.
I've barely used this duffel and it's falling apart. The laminate is breaking from the outer material. At every natural fold is a hole. Great bag if you don't plan on using it. Definitely not durable or waterproof. It's an older design so hopefully the newer designs are better.
A bag for adventure
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this for both business trip for the practicality and looks as well as durability, very utilitarian if you watch what you stuff in it beside your back. Great bag!
I am in the club!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My two brothers have North Face Duffle bags. One has had his for years for use on our motorcycle trips. The bag had been the envy of us all. Recently, another brother purchased one for our upcoming summer motorcycle trip. So, I had to have one. I purchased the hi-viz duffle to rest on the passenger seat as I ride. The bag lives up to all the hype. All my clothes and things can fit in the bag for a solid 6 days of traveling without having to wash anything. It is beautiful, sturdy, and exceptionally made. I love it. I hope to be able to get my wife and daughter their own bag one day. I am glad I am in the North Face Base Camp duffel bag club. You won't regret getting one.
10 day travel bag
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Best bag I have purchased, travel for work 10 days at a time. I took up my clothes for more room. Attached a hook on the bag to hold water bottle. I also can take it on hikes if needed .
A 15 year love
My father purchased this bag for me about 15 years ago after we traveled somewhere our hard-sided, traditional luggage could not fit in the trunk of the cab. This duffel has been my trusty travel companion. We have been on every mode of transport--planes, trains, cabs, tuk tuks, buses, boats etc... The bag is durable and sized appropriately for all types of travel. It fits in nearly all overhead bins and stows away without taking up much space when not in use. The duffel style allows for easy access while the backpack straps make it easy to carry. The vibrant yellow color makes the bag easy to identify. I love this bag. I hope to get another 15 years out of it.
Perfect for Overpacking
Are you looking to transport a dead body? Or at least the equivalent weight b/c you can't calm your anxiety and overpack? this bag has you covered. It has great structure and volume. The straps are strong and the backpack straps make for a great method of transporting this bag when you've overloaded it with too many things. I did find the zippers to be a bit stiff, but I suspect they with easy with time. And I've learned the hard way, if you are throwing this on your back, make sure to secure the hand/shoulder straps to each other first. You don't want to catch the wrong strap as you are swinging 50lbs around.
Best duffel bag I have ever bought
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a emergency medical technician and was call out to the wild fires out in California. I traveled all the way from nyc to fersno California with my duffel bag with all my personal equipment and work equipment. This bag kept up with me in all kinds of weather and taurine. I was in the mountains and sleeping out doors and everything was secured at all times. This bag is by far one of my best investment and looking foward to taking it with me in many more rescue missions.
Very Good bag that used to be better
My favourite feature of the base camp duffels has been that iI can use the compression straps to secure the bags down to cargo racks on a bicycle porteur rack or motorcycle rear rack without needing to carry extra straps. The lopsided new design doesn't centre the weight right. The bags are durable and do a good job of keeping your stuff dry. I did a 17,000km road trip across Canada and everything stayed dry despite highway speeds in numerous torrential downpours crossing Ontario. The only time I've had one let in water was when the bag wasn't full (of gear) and water pooled on top of a low spot and water seeped in through the zipper. I now put my sleeping bag in a thin dry bag and squeeze the air out with my weight and close it up to keep it compact and dry when packed - compressed and dry without compression straps. Oh, then use the dry bag semi-full wrapped with a fleece pullover inside-out as a pillow at night.
Base Camp Bag turned into a sticky mess
The inside of the bag has turned into a sticky mess. After sending the bag to TNF for warranty, they sent it back to me saying it wasn't covered under their warranty as it's not a manufacturers defect. What?! This seems exactly like a manufactures defect. They didn't even bother trying to fix it. They said nothing could be done with my bag. I guess they don't know what a patch is. Don't waste your time with this bag or North Face. They're obviously not the environmentally responsible company they claim to be. Spend the extra cash on a Patagonia, at least they stand behind their product.
Good for leisure/travel
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought it for a solo 1.5 week trip to Europe. I am 5'2" and am moderately strong/active. This bag fit a ton of stuff and was manageable for a decent amount of time. I also had a suitcase so I'm sure if I only had the duffel it'd be even easier. Very comfortable straps.
