great frame bag for Bikepacking

I used this on my 2019 Salsa Vaya 105 for a multi day Bikepacking trip in northern Montana. I packed all those small, but heavy things in it like my tools and repair kits, tent poles, tent stakes, battery pack, bike lights, and camp chair. I put the densest items in the bottom of the bag (lower to the ground). I had one day where I was carrying group gear so I had to put some extra gear in this frame bag, which made it bulge on either side. It was fine, but annoying when my leg brushed against it while peddling. I definitely had too much in it, but it was fine for a day (about 30 gravel miles). I wouldn’t want to pack it that full for a whole trip. It takes some doing to get on and off so I would not recommend taking it off unless you have to.

Great product but Instructions Poor

Would give 5 star for this 'bulletproof' hang-bag except for attachment instructions. German product and in lieu of written (narrative) instructions picture drawings are provided instead. Probably good idea as narrative would be hard to articulate. Problem is these picture diagrams are confusing and unclear. Took 1.5 hours (almost returned it) trying various ways to slide in top straps, first from one way, then the other. Upside down and right side up. Then trying to guess which way it goes over the bar, under the bar, etc. Finally stumbled on correct method and all worked out fine. Had to run to Lowes for some extra velcro strapping, and length of hang-bag a bit long due to a support bar on bike frame under seat (see pic), but really works just fine.

The thing just works. Latches are great and easy.

I have had this bag for two years and a couple thousand miles of bikepacking trips. It works. I noticed someone made a review that said, "the closing mechanism is not well designed, those silicone rings are going to break or get lost." NOPE. They work great. And guess what! If they did break, contact Ortlieb and they will send you a replacement with no hassle. I know this because I have contacted them about a Velcro strap issue and they sent a replacement free of charge and without hassle.

Cheap, but not the best design.

This frame pack does not fit the frame of the Topstone bikes REI sells. The volume is also lower than other framebags you can buy from companies like Rockgeist. It is cheap, but the closing mechanism is not well designed, those silicone rings are going to break or get lost.

does not meet my expecations for an Ortlieb bag

The Ortlieb RC Frame Pack (6 Liters) does not fit a Cannondale Topstone aluminum frame size M (year 2024), it's about an inch too long and gets squashed. I wish Ortlieb or REI would publish a list of bike models that each bag is compatible with, the measurements alone are just not precise enough. I was also misled by one of the photo that suggested that the bag would leave enough room for a bottle holder - it does not. I'm deducting another point for the bag itself: I swear on Ortlieb when it comes to Pannier bags. It's a simple, proven design and they last forever. Unfortunately they have not been able to reach that level with their frame and handlebar bags. While there are some nice features like the opening to the side and the protective strap under the velcro, the installation instructions are terrible and the bag seems over-engineered for what it is. Adding only 3 velcro straps for the bottom and seat tube is also pretty stingy for a bag at this price point.
