Great design but questionable quality
These bibs are fantastic for the great fit and comfort, along with the multiple storage pockets on the legs and back. I really like being able to put an item or two in each pocket and not have to deal with a saddle or frame bag, and nothing in my jersey pockets. The chamois is very comfortable, however after wearing these maybe 8-10 times, the stitching has come loose completely for about a 1 inch section on one side and I have a loose thread directly opposite, both essentially dead center on the chamois. I have numerous other shorts and bibs, many of which are several years old with considerably more use and none have ever had this problem. My cycling kit is always washed in small loads on gentle cycle and hung to dry. Rapha seems for a premium price and the design appears premium, but this is not premium quality, and would not be acceptable at half the price. I won’t buy a Rapha product again.
Comfortable, durable, great fit!
Ordered these after several other brands didnt fit right. Hubs is 5'11" and 175lbs (thin but muscular bum and thighs which caused issues with other brands being too tight in thigh) and the Medium in these is perfect. He wears for gravel and MTB rides and they don not ride up, no pinching, straps stay put, padding is just right, and durable (survived some snags in the woods when overshorts rode up!). They wash great (cold in delicates bag and air dried). Only complaint is the printed washing instructions on the back pocket are visually annoying, why not printed on inside? BUT ordering a second one right now so that should tell you all you need to know!
Best cargo bib pockets on the market
I wear medium in everything except Castelli (jackets). These bibs are a very tight medium; I'm 5'10", 160 pounds, and would probably buy a M/L if they made bibs like Giant bikes. I would not go Large because the legs would be too long. The pockets are, without a doubt, the best on the gravel bib scene. Even the back pockets are easy to reach and I'm about as flexible as a brass pole. I'm normally a PI or Assos (only when on major sale) wearer, but was surprised at the quality of the Core bibs. The reviews finally did a product justice. Retail is fair, and I eagerly await REI's 20% coupon if these apply. Great job, Rapha!
Bib straps are short and legs are long
I'm 5'10" of average build. I ordered a size large and the fit is fine at the waist, There is a fairly tight compression fit on my quads and hams. My issue is that the bib straps are tight on my shoulders compared to other brands. If this were the only problem, I would size up but I can't because these are the longest inseam i have ever heard of. By that I mean the leg hem covers half my knee cap when standing and hits the crease in the back.I can't size down for fear the bib straps and overall fit will be too tight. Aside from fit the chamois is OK for entry-level bibs. The fabric feels good, it's mid-weight and I would opt for something lighter once the temperature gets over 80F.
They make me want pockets on all of my bibs
Overall great bibs. Comfy chamois (it can be a little wedgie off of the bike) and straps. They do seem to be a bit on the thicker/warmer side, but it hasn't been problematic for me with temps in the 90s. The pockets were a game-changer for me. Great to keep frequent-use or valuables (phone, wallet, etc) close at hand and to expand snack capacity on long rides. As a reminder for those that mention infrequent issues like stitching coming undone, Rapha provides free repairs - contact their customer service.
First Time with Cargo Bibs ... and These are Great
Replacing my beloved Hincapie brand bibs from years ago, and saw that these got good reviewes. I am impressed and am very happy with them. First time with cargo bibs, and I don't think I could ever go back to regular bibs. I ride road bike exclusively. I thought the large would fit me, but ultimately went for XL. I am 6'3", 185 lb, and 34" waist. I was able to get into the large, but they just felt too tight in the legs and hips/butt, and the shoulder straps felt too short for me. XL is more the fit I was looking for.
Great bibs for the price!
Firstly, I’ve been using the core bibs since they first came out. I’m glad to see REI being able to carry them. They have great materials and the chamois is great, easily on par with my other bibs that cost almost three times more. Definitely try them out.
Comfortable but questionable durability
Super comfortable and do everything right when it comes to bikepacking and gravel rides. Unless one counts the poor durability of them. Less than one year of riding on two pairs and the material is worn through and best to use only on the bike trainer within the garage so as not to offend people. Pearl and Castelli I usually get 3-5 years from and show less wear than the Rapha's do this year alone. Two pairs of Rapha and we aren't at 11 months yet. I won't be buying more nor recommending them.
Great for rides under 2 hrs
Great craftsmanship, material, and fit, for rides under 2 hrs these are some proper blings and are comfortable. I do 30 mile rides during the week and 60 on weekends, 30 mile takes less than 2 hours and these were great. The one long ride I wore these to ended up being 80 miles, over 5 hours total on the bike, these became unbearable after about 2.5 hours. Rode on Sunday, butt still hurting on Tuesday. I'm 6'4", 230 lb, riding a 58 cm road bike for reference.
Nice bibs, but inseam was too long for me
Nice pair of bib shorts with pockets but I had to return it since its inseam was too long for me. The leg openings went up to my knee cap. I would have kept it if it was around 2" shorter (not available in their product line). Be aware if you have a shorter femur. Quick shipping and easy return to the store.
