Great life jacket - size range could be expanded
Finally, a lifejacket that I wear! (not just worn by the stern of my kayak to meet coast guard regs) It's comfortable to wear for long spans of time, doesn't ride up or interfere with paddling, prevents my wife from fretting about me when I go out solo, and does indeed hold a can, as advertised. And holds a smartphone in a waterproof bag in the other pocket. The size range is the only drawback. At 5'7 and a 34A, with a short torso, I wear the straps of the S/M near the smallest setting, but I'm nowhere near the smallest setting of adult who benefits from boob-accomodating life jackets. I've recommended this jacket to others, who found it too big. Astral, make an XS!
Own this and wear it preferring it to others
Bought this to match my red day touring kayak, and to wear my "serious" pfd with all the bells and whistles when I paddle a sea kayak. HOWEVER< this is a great pfd and gets worn most often. For BIG OCEAN I wear the one with marine radio pockets and other accommodations, but the LINDA is the lightest, most comfortable pfd I have ever worn both in the boat and in the water. Have rolled in it and flipped in it and it is great. I rig my whistle to it, and the pockets hold gloves and my waterproof camera which is tethered to the inside ring in the other pocket. Great choice for any weather but comfortable on hottest days.
Great fit and features
I’ve used this PFD all summer and just love it. I’m fairly short-torsoed and it fits perfectly so the back isn’t hitting the seat of my canoe oddly nor does it ride up. I can adjust it securely. The front pockets get used regularly as well. I drove to REI to specifically try on and purchase this PFD and it lived up to my expectations.
Zipper fail
I read up and tried on pfds gor months. The ELinda was the best fitting with pockets. Maiden voyage - zipper slipped down while portaging. Guess it wasnt closed. But then I fell out of the raft in a huge hole and when folks tried to lift me by the straps. The zipper failed and the jacket popped open. I swanm to an eddy but it freaked out our captain and my son. I loved yhis jacket. Not sure if mine was defective.
Very good PFD
I have a kayak with a seat with a back. Wearing this PFD works well with the seat, it doesn't push be forward off the seat. I am also able to cast my fishing line with out interference from the PFD. The bad thing about it is that the pockets are not waterproof..
Well-fitting and comfortable PFD
I’ve only been out in it once, but the E-Linda is comfortable and allows a natural sitting position. The front storage pockets are easy to access. I’m still not sure about the idea of a zipper vs buckles, but the zipper is much smoother than the one on the other PFD I originally planned to buy. Still, I miss having the ability to buckle the jacket onto things for safe keeping.
Not for a petite woman
I was hoping for a PFD I could wear as a petite woman while kayaking. This is not it. While it looks solid and well made like most REI gear, it failed to work for a petite, curvy woman (5', 125lb).
Great PFD
I used this PFD on an 11 mile canoe trip and it was so comfortable. I love that it can hold my phone, too!
Perfect for kayaking
Great vest! Very comfortable and not too hot. Great for kayaking...the back of the vest is just above my seat back so is perfect. Lots of room under the arms for paddling without the jacket rubbing.
Comfortable life jacket
For the first time in my life, I can say a life jacket is comfortable, this jacket is that and I tried on a few before this one and I never thought it was possible, until now. Everything else, like the strobe light and nice pockets are a bonus.
