Overall good shoe
Received and wore these shoes for two weeks as my everyday shoe and on a few hikes. Out of the box I noticed the toe box was slightly narrower than I am used to. I normally wear a pair of Salomon triple crowns which have a wider toe box. I also noticed that the Vibram soles provide plenty of grip, but lead to a stiff shoe, however after some break in it’s less stiff, but still stiffer than what I’m used to two weeks later. The shoes are waterproof with a DWR coating, my feet stayed dry as I tested them shoveling some snow and wading in some shallow water. Time will tell how the DWR will hold up in the long run. Overall these are a quality shoe with nothing falling apart after two weeks of daily use.
Shoestring eyelets break, are weak.
This is an "approach" shoe which implies some climbing or scrambling. Thought I'd use these for hikers and rock scrambling, but ended up using as a daily shoe, no hiking. Loved the look, feel and quality initially. Noticed that some of the climbing style eyelets were fraying. Have had some break. The eyelets should not ever fail before the laces. Laces and balance of shoe still in great shape. No confidence in eylets. If these were true climbing shoes this failure could be catastrophic. Arc'teryx typically makes great products but this is not it, and for the price paid a disappointment. Do not buy this shoe.
Great shoe
This is a lite weight, durable, comfortable shoe. I wear it in the Middle East where it is exposed to extreme temperatures on a daily basis.
Very short lifespan
These shoes fit very well and have maintained waterproofness but they began coming apart from day one. The different materials started to delaminate and then tore. I didn't get three good months out of these and at five months now the hole are too large use.
Awesome Approach Shoe
This shoe is inspired by a running shoe design, and you can tell. It is insanely comfortable, and pretty lightweight. It has a nice vibram sole that is pretty grippy when hiking and doing rock approaches. I even practiced some friction slab rappels in them, and they gripped the rock really well. I appreciate the toe protection which saved my big toes several times on rocky ascents. Standing around, they stayed dry in light rain, but I haven't had a chance to submerge them. They are my go-to shoes for day hikes and climbing approaches.
My new "Take it Anywhere" shoe!
I enjoyed the approach shoe for its excellent underfoot support, light weight and grip on variable surfaces. From damp boulders to loose gravel, this show can do it all and I continue to be pleasantly surprised by its versatility. The shoe and laces are weatherproof and held right even though everything was damp on my first hike in. My foot stayed dry all day despite wet underbrush and mud during our hike and transitioned easily the post-hike family trip to the beach. I also used this on a family hike with varied rocky terrain and it was very stable while I carried my one-year old in a backpack carrier. I appreciated the security as lots of the bigger wet rocks would have been really sketchy in some regular trail runners or boots. The rubber outsole is especially awesome how it wraps around the toe and provides great grip and protection. Solid shoe for so many uses!
Cant go wrong
As a longtime Arcteryx consumer, I’m always appreciate of the reviews and the responses by the company. Having purchased the first version of the Konseal FL, which I loved from aesthetic, comfort, and weight view, I shared issues with the shoe with Arcteryx (toe cap came apart after 3 weeks). Dead bird Being the caliber of brand they are, replaced my faulty ones with some AR’s, and took my input, along with others, and assured me the issues have been fixed. I’m pleased to say they have, and you cannot go wrong with this shoe. It’s lighter than you could believe, and they fit great out of the box. Not to mention the amount of people that have commented and asked where they could get a pair.
A great, stylish, dry choice for narrow feet.
Since they lace up all the way from the toes, they give a customized fit for widths narrow to medium. I have 12N feet and it’s very hard to find shoes that can fit this well and look this good. I’m going to buy an extra pair in black. The green looks great.
Out of the box comfort
These shoes have replaced my approach shoes from another brand. They have been comfortable out of the box. The uppers are tight in all the right places, and can be customized with a lot of lace options. The outsole is very grippy when dry, not so much when wet, but that is expected with these kind of shoes. These shoes can be used as daily hikers, approach/scrambling shoes, or just looking cool in town.
My first Arc'teryx shoe
I wanted something to replace my Scarpa approach/low hikers and these did not disappoint. I like the surrounding rubber guard all around the Konseal. I have been using these for hiking, bike commuting and general all-around city shoe and it's been really great so far. The quality of the materials is obvious and I especially like the Gore-Tex membrane since I use these for riding in the rain. The sizing is consistent with my normal shoe size and even leaves a tiny bit more room so I can wear thicker socks. Very satisfied with my purchase!
