Uncomfortable Strap
I really wanted to like this sling because it's the only one that allows you to move the strap from one side to the other. I'm left-handed and the ease access can be a challenge with other slings. Unfortunately, the strap is so thick and the fabric is so rough that it felt uncomfortable rubbing against my neck as soon as I tried it. Compared to the flexible, unpadded straps of the Daylite Plus, this felt like overkill for such a small bag that's not going to get too heavy. I wish the key hook was in the outer pocket like it is in my Daylite Plus and Celeste packs. It makes no sense to have to work two sets of zippers to access housekeys.
Poor changes to a previously great sling
I have the previous version, purchased in 2021, which opened on one side, and now this newer (2024) version which opens at the top. The old version was MUCH better. While the top opening theoretically would work for the right-to-left shoulder swap available with the strap (which is now on an annoying swivel attachment at a small point, making it unstable), the top zippers render the sling virtually unusable when you pull it around to the front to get something out of. The previous version never had anything fall out of because it functions as a pouch when on your chest. The new version has interior pockets which are also vertically oriented, making everything slide out when the sling is moved to the chest. There are no longer any small interior stash pockets, only two large ones (one zippered), something I really miss for small items like lip balm. The front smaller external pocket is no longer mesh. The shoulder strap is stiffer and thicker. So why did I buy it? Because I need a black sling, smallish but still big enough to fit a lot. The purple from 2021 is a bit much some days. As a wheelchair user, I find using a sling bag to be the most functional and convenient carry option.
Great sling so far
TBH I wish it had external straps like the Patagonia, but after wearing the two I found the Osprey to be more comfortable (and a good bit cheaper). The Osprey allows changing shoulders too. So far great for shorter hikes not requiring more than 32oz of water which I just carry by hand. Also handy on longer bike rides. Haven't been able to take it to concerts yet but that's the plan. I suspect that satisfaction depends on capacity needs and carry comfort, both of which are individual and which led me to keep the Osprey over the Patagonia.
Can be worn over either shoulder
I love this sling bag because it can be worn over either shoulder depending on where the strap is anchored. It is also a great size to slip a wallet and a book/e-reader into and there is a mesh pocket and a larger pocket along the back. The outside back is cushioned mesh and i just love how the bag sits over my shoulder and hangs without needing an extra waist strap, like previous versions from other companies that i had tried. There is also a smaller front zipper pocket that easily fits keys and a phone. I am really happy with this bag design.
A Great Photography Pack.
I do photography. With a standard pack I typically had to remove it find what I wanted, stow what I didn't and slide the pack back on. Usually meant carrying the pack wearing only one strap. With this sling pack I swing it around in front of me, and open the top zipper half way. Not only does this put the contents of the pack right in front of me. The open pack becomes my work surface. Makes it much easier to change lens, filters or batteries. Roomy enough for a water bottle, snacks, etc. I thought it might be too small but seems perfect for what I need it for.
Impractical Design
I got this bag as a substitute for a purse and although it seems nicely constructed, it does not have the compartments or accessibility to be practical for that purpose. The pocket on the strap is too small for a phone. The two interior pockets are very deep-they go all the way to the bottom of the bag. The front zipper compartment goes around only the top of the bag, all of which means your hand is digging around blindly to find items. (The larger back compartment zipper does go down the sides.) I guess it's constructed to be lightweight but it's not very practical. I find it uncomfortable to carry on walks, so don't know why designers chose lightweight over access.
Super Practical
Just arrived. I wore it around the house with two water bottles, cell phone, and keys. Room for more! Perfect for long walk while dogs run free. Very comfortable, mostly padded adjustable strap. I prefer to sling it across my front for easy access. Main opening has two zippers that meet at top, each extending 3/4 way down on each side, so no struggling to pull things out. A couple smaller pockets inside, including a zippered mesh pocket with an inside latch-hook to keep your key safe. Roomy front pocket on outside for cell phone. Soft padded back with thick shoulder pad. Lightweight. This is a no nonsense, no frills bag, perfect for light, on-the-go adventure. Well done!
Great small sling
Great small sling for the bare essentials. Used for travel to walk around historic parts of city with water bottle, snacks, and things I would normally carry in my pockets. Worked well in transit areas where you could swing it to the front. Very comfortable and was able to switch the sling from left to right if one shoulder got tired. For small loads, it works well. For anything larger, would recommend the daylite plus backpack.
Great product.
Excellent sling. Allows me to retrieve my phone easily while carrying other essentials. One improvement that could be made is to have a double zipper on the smaller pocket as on the larger pocket. This would allow a right handed person who wears the sling draped over the left shoulder to put keys in the smaller pocket and not worry that they might drop out since the existing zipper opens from the down side when worn as above. Overall a great product however.
Next Generation Daylight Sling
Definitely a step up in new features on this next generation Sling. Stronger material, a zippered in pocket, and no see through outer mesh pocket. Best of all it has 2 separate harness attachment locations so you can wear it over either shoulder. And don’t forget Osprey’s lifetime warranty. What’s not to like?
