If you are accustomed to hiking/backpacking in your average sock, these socks will change your life. These socks are far above average in terms of quality and will serve your average person's uses perfectly. In other words - for anyone who is not a sock snob - these socks will do exactly as advertised for the majority of people, in a majority of circumstances. These socks are well-made, durable, and provide a good mix of breath-ability and insulation (though they are by no means a 'cold-weather' sock). Sizes do run on the smaller side, so I would recommend sizing up one (at least for men).
The best wool socks, hands down. I've been wearing wool socks for years and have tried a number of different brands. Some others may be more comfortable, but none match the durability of these bad boys. They're not uncomfortable per se, they're just not as cushy and stretchy as some others out there. Is it worth sacrificing a little comfort for the durability? Absolutely. Not only do these socks far outlast all other pairs, but if you put a hold in them, they'll replace them. I am slowly replacing all of my socks with Darn Toughs since they are the superior sock. Couldn't recommend them more.
I bought 5 in denim and 5 in black, both in size XL. I followed the laundering instructions to a 'T' and hung them to air dry. The denim fit great and are consistent with other size XL socks I have from Darn Tough. The black are tight around the ankle to the point that they are uncomfortable. I can barely get them past my heel when putting them on. When comparing the size of the opening, the black has a noticeably smaller opening. I'll be keeping the denim and returning the black.
I purchased the darkest (black) version of these available with the light padding. The padding is just the right amount to provide some cushioning on hikes without creating any friction between the foot and the shoe that might cause blisters. The fact you can replace these for free when they get damaged is excellent and what prompted me to look at them. So far, no signs of wear after a number of hikes (and I normally go through socks quickly). The only negative would be that they can get swallowed by the shoe sometimes as they don't have a differently shaped top (like other brands such as Feetures do). Wicks sweat away well.
Less expensive high polyester content socks from Target were a constant source of stinky sweaty feet and athlete’s feet for me. So I splurged on these $20 high content merino wool socks and after a month of wearing these I am really pleased with them. Sweaty feet and athletes feet is non-existent. They wear well and don’t shed like cheap Target socks. I wear them for two days and then wash them but only air dry them and the fit remains great. Worth every penny so far. Buy 3 pair and get 10% off at REI.
These socks want to bunch over my instep just enough to keep me from giving a 5 star rating. Otherwise, the wool is great and soft, they don't stink much after a day of hiking/biking, they look pretty good. Darn Tough make great socks, this one seems to create little ripples under my shoe tongue where others have not.
Man love these socks. I had some boot cut darn tough socks that I used for years on hikes and liked how they wicked sweat off of my feet - I have very sweaty feet. They really are long lasting socks - I have yet to wear holes in them. Wanted to try the light hiker no-show socks to wear with my keen sandals and wow these are great - comfort, wicking and wear. Will be purchasing more of these.
Best socks ever, they are darn tough, comfortable all day, dry quick
I bought these for golf and they’ve turned out to be better than I expected. They don’t slip down off my heel and into my shoes like some low cut socks do. They are a little thicker than I wanted them to be but that’s okay - it just makes for a little more cushioning which adds a fair amount of comfort. I’d definitely buy them again.
My new favorite socks. Not close. Recently did 50 miles in 4 days, with 4 different pairs of socks. These by far were the best of the 4 and it was incredible tempting to leave them on the whole trip...
