Versatile cooking options for day picnics or camping. The cookware is lightweight and durable. Cooking with the skillet option is an improvement over the usual single burners as the heat seems to be better distributed over the frying pan. The burner works in various weather situations with wind, rain, or snow. I would recommend the product along with optional cookware for those people who enjoy outdoor cooking. It may be on the higher priced options but it seems to have a better quality overall.
I've had this stove for five years and am now looking for something different. This stove does heat things well, and quickly, while maintaining a solid burn even in near 40 MPH winds at the top of a gorge. However, the base isn't super sturdy for a full pot, and the pot's non-stick coating is very finicky. The frying pan option is challenging because the heat doesn't disperse evenly, so things burn quickly and leave burn residue on the pan. The little plastic nub that counts as the lid handle also broke off after about 3 years. It's too big to bring backpacking, and for car camping it's could pack together better, you also can't use a different pan, like a small cast iron, on the burner. Overall, the heating mechanism is great, but the pots are too sensitive and don't pack well. Looking for leads on a better packable stove that could work for car camping with a regular cookware pot / pan. If I could have the same stove with a slightly wider base that could fit any pot that's what I want.
I used my MSR WindBurner Combo Stove System for a trip to BWCA in August. We used the WindBurner exclusively all week due to a fire ban in the area. The WindBurner came through with flying colors! Super light, breaks down into a small bundle making it easy to pack. What I like most is that the pan and pot fit onto the burner securely… The design also keeps the flame going even with the wind blowing. I would highly recommend the MSR WindBurner Combo Stove System to everyone!
Absolutely upset about it. I have a tend and this windburner from MSR, hope it was secure and reliable choice. In the middle of a rice cook, it stop flowing gas yesterday, and so we had to it that eat raw. How on earth !!! Is this a reliable product? I would not recommend it really. We do not know what to do with all the set now, and fear that it is not at all a save, secure and reliable product. Ahh, and not really cheap, uffs! What is the cost of low quality to the customer? There is a high cost, isn't it? Alex
This stove is a great addition for group camping and larger group cooking. I was able to change easily between the frying pan and the pot to keep our food cooking and our water boiling without slowing down to let things cool off so I could un-clip the pot. We went from cooking eggs and bacon to boiling water for coffee and clean up in seconds. Easy to pack up. While it is a bit bulky for one person it is easy to share all the parts with your group to keep the weight down. Can't wait to get out on the next trip.
You can only use this with Windburner compatible kit. We’ve got a nice collapsible kettle that we can’t use with this. Why, MSR, didn’t you just design the vents into the base instead of into the pots and accessories? Why also do you not make an adapter with the vents in it, thus allowing people to use non MSR pots / pans / kettles? Could be such a great product, but this lets it down massively.
Just great. Expensive but worth it. I like to eat “normal” food even when I have to pack into the wilderness. Ova easy eggs with ore ida freeze dried hash browns etc. The MSR Jet burners are great for boiling water but burnt a hole in my scrambled eggs. This kit works in the wind. Cooks anything. Pot is big enough for 1 lb of spaghetti. Lighter than my old Camping Gaz kit.
Took this set with for a weekend camping trip and cooked for a group of 4. It worked great! Quick set up, light weight for packing, and did a great job at cooking up food fast. It was a bit windy in the afternoon and still worked great to make meals. No issues at all. Glad I made the purchase and plan on buying one more so I can cook for a bigger group.
I like the stove, but it was a little bit hard to light in cold weather, about 35 degrees F. I guess I need to buy 4 season fuel canisters. The flame is very adjustable which is helpful. The frying pan and 2.5 liter pot are quite good. The whole system is light weight, good for back packing.
Great cooking system. Made the switch from another big name competitor after poor performance in lower temps and was pleasantly surprised by the Windburner system. No issues thus far in below freezing temps.
