Great Helmet - but Sizing is crazy SMALL - my head is 54cm and according to the Troy Lee size chart, small is 53-56cm...so, Small should fit right - but it's barely able to fit on my head. When i first put it on, I had it wide open and it was snug! It has since loosened up so now I tighten it two clicks - still, the sizing runs small - but, other than that this is an amazing helmet. Been riding road and mountain and tandem for 30 years and have had a wide range of helmets. I was able to insert a small LED light in the exhaust hole in the back. See pic.
I've had the A1 and A2 and they fit So good, they beat every other helmet I've worn (Bell,Giro, Smith). This helmet has great features and looks killer too. I love the sweat guard, the magnetic buckle and the extras it comes, BUT it absolutely fits a bit smaller than my A1 or A2 which fit the same. I could put a thing headband under my size M/L, no way on this one, even if I take out some of the rearward padding. I shave my head so I HAVE to have a sweatband. The guard and padding just don't do enough. Sweat isn't in my eyes, but it just pours down the side of my face without one. Will probably size up.
This is exactly what you would expect from the high end TLD helmet. Great comfort, airflow, and the fidlock buckle is very cool. I currently have an A1 MIPS, and this is very noticeably refined and much more comfy. Can you put a pricetag on the safety and comfort of you head? I suppose you can, but it may cost as much as the A3. You do get some extras (liner, sweat guides, and stickers!).
My first TLD helmet, coming from Giro and Bell helmets I've been using for the last decade. I am pleasantly surprised how comfortable this helmet is. It feels like the helmet is wrapped around the head. I really appreciate how design of this helmet addresses little things, like magnetic buckle (super convenient) or piece of foam over eye to keep sweat away. I do, however, have mixed feelings about that fin on the back of the helmet. What's the point of that thing? Does it even have a purpose? Looks like a weird little fantasy of a designer who spent all night watching "Star Trek". Overall, absolutely awesome product.
My helmet arrived with one of the visor attachment screws sheared off, leaving a floppy useless visor that can’t be repaired because the screw threads are now filled with soft plastic. I can’t extract it with a drill bit or fish it out with tweezers. Sucks that a $220 helmet uses plastic screws in a metal thread body to attach a critical component… definitely not the quality I’d expect
The most comfortable helmet I have ever had. Visor loves up and down easily, extra set of pads, magnetic lock, fits perfect, and is good looking. The sweat shield is new to me and it works fantastic! This helmet is worth every penny I paid for it.
I bought this one to replace my A2 which, quite frankly, never been my favorite helmet but does the trick. All heads are different but IMHO, the A3 still share most defects and dislikes of the A2 as it sits high on the head despite TLD claims, the straps rub on my ears, and that ugly shark fin bump...My A2 M/L fits "okay", but the A3 M/L fits like a S/M at max adjustment. Returned for refund and on the hunt for another helmet. Just not impressed with this one out of the box.
After a lifetime of helmets for everything from whitewater to cycling to aviation and motor sports, this is the first helmet that fits comfortably, is protective and very well designed. I’ve hated wearing almost all of the dozen or so helmets in the past, but love this one and I can forget that I’m wearing it. It functions well with sunglasses and several types of hats or balaclavas underneath making it great for snow fat-biking or summer use.
Use this regularly for mountain biking. best helmet I've ever owned. very comfortable, breathable, and high quality.
Rode Moab on 100 degree days and never felt hot. Looks good too.
