Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

BOXER BRIEFS FIXED!
I’m grateful that REI fixed the last generation “fail” on their boxer briefs so well. These boxer briefs are absolutely perfect. The big problem with the last generation was the rise: I’m sure that it looked great on the Survivor beach, but it was too low to prevent trousers and shorts from chafing when wearing a waist-belt or water bottle holder. The new waistband isn’t “granny-pants” high, but it seems to hit the sweet-spot of my waistline. The new fabric and elastic are absolutely luxurious and contribute to the chafe-free feel, while breathing even better than cotton. Thank you REI for listening to customer feedback and coming back with a home run!
Everyday Boxers Indeed
First I should have read the reviews before purchasing these boxer briefs. They run big! I normally wear large (6’1” and 185 lbs), but they pretty much fall off. Mediums fit perfectly hence the 5 stars. I have always loved REI boxer briefs until the last iteration. I then moved to smartmool and really liked those but the price point. Now back to this newer version of REI boxer briefs and these will be my new go to boxers. The waistband is very comfortable. Enough room but not overly so. The fly also works nicely. Hiked in these the other day in 90 plus degrees in very humid conditions and it did its job of wicking away sweat. No ride up in the legs either.
REI took a product I loved and ruined it
My wardrobe is simple (no decisions in the morning). REI boxer briefs are part of that. I probably have about 20 pairs of the previous generation that I rotate through. The previous generation was very comfortable. However they will eventually wear out (elastic, etc) and need to be replaced so I used my member dividend to purchase a pair of the new generation to try. I don't know why REI always messes with their designs every couple years (they ruined the sahara cargo pants too). If people love a specific style/fit...they will come back and keep buying it every time it wears out. Change the colors, sure...but not the materials and design of your winning products. There has to be some business model where older styles are preserved and available as special order (for more money of course) either as old stock or made to order. I guess that isn't how the clothing business works today though. Anyway, for people like me who have previous generation REI boxer briefs and are thinking about replacing them with these...this review is for you. The new generation is similar/same material and fit. The difference is the waistband elastic is thicker and these boxer briefs are MUCH MUCH longer. When I put these on I feel like I am a teenager again wearing ridiculously long shorts (remember when that was "cool"?). I have no idea why they added so much length but I don't find it comfortable. Boxer briefs are supposed to be in between boxer and brief length and these are longer than most boxer shorts. As you walk the boxer briefs will move over much more of your thigh skin and that is distracting. I apologize in advance for the photo but it illustrates the differences very clearly. I'm 6'0" tall and these are size L (old generation and new)...so not a giant but not a shorty either. Not sure who these boxer briefs were designed for but the length is ridiculous. Not sure what I am going to do when the ones I like start wearing out. Not looking forward to test-buying a ton of alternative brands until I find one that has the same cut/fit/material as the old REI generation. Maybe I just buy these and have them tailored to get rid of the ridiculous length. Or maybe in a couple years patterned tailoring on demand will be available and I can just order clones of the great products REI stopped producing.
Disappointed
After only about a month of wear there is already a hole in one of the seams, seems like this is a problem for many other reviewers. Also these don’t seem as breathable as others, which I’m also assuming is due a change to cheaper material. Big fan of the previous REI Boxer Briefs which I bought about 2 years ago and still wear, with no holes or issues with any seams. Seems like REI is sacrificing quality of their new products which is super disappointing! Have always been a huge fan of REI apparel.
Great Product. Runs Large
I recently had the chance to try a pair of REI Co-op Everyday Boxer Briefs, size XXL. Out of the package, I was very impressed with how soft and thin the synthetic material was. Despite being soft and thin, the material has held up nicely after several machine washes. I have used these boxer briefs for running, all-day hikes, as well as a short backpacking trip. After three days of wearing the same pair of underwear, I was impressed that the material did a great job of blocking odor. My go-to pair of underwear is the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs, but I am happy to say the REI Co-op Everyday Boxer Briefs are just as good, and slightly less expensive. The only drawback I noticed with these boxer briefs is that they seem larger than other brands. Even with the larger sizing, I am impressed with these underwear and will definitely be adding more pairs to my gear collection.
Causes chafing in thicker thighs
Material and feel is great, but a bit of sweat causes chafing for me - not enough groin support vs. competitors and has too much skin-on-skin contact. I've been blessed with a small waist and large thighs, but both the medium and large sizes had the same problem for me. I live in south Texas where it's hot and humid, so finding comfortable underwear I can wear all day outside is a must. Sadly these did not hold up to the task on just a 2 mile walk in the woods.
They don’t ride up!
I like boxer shorts but they bundle up when wearing slim jeans or slim work pants so I went on a mission for boxer briefs. I was looking for something that would be comfortable primarily under my Dickies work pants since I have a job that keeps me moving throughout the day. These stay comfy on hot, humid days when I do have to venture outside, and an added bonus for me is the leg does not bunch up with activity. On weekend activities (mowing the lawn and such) and weekend life, they fit well under short and jeans and stay put! I’m very happy and will be my go-to for every day underwear!
Seam placement causes saddle sores
Everyday bicyclists around town need synthetic boxer briefs that fit comfortably under street clothes to avoid saddle sores. The key is seam placement, and the old design was perfect. Yet another trendy REI redesign, yet another failure of design organization memory. Oh, for the old REI of solid, well-designed, functional, low-cost gear that rarely changed, over the days before massive expansion and debt driven extractive product turnover, design, pricing and upselling.
Comfortable wear
The REI Co-op boxer briefs were a surprisingly nice addition to my wardrobe. The material is smooth and breathable, not at all irritating. I have a size large, and I was initially concerned because that actually look bigger, almost an XL in appearance. However, once I tried them, the fit was nice - loose fitting but no danger of sliding down, but the waistband was snug enough without being tight. They certainly provide ample room to not restrict movement, but also don't bunch up or leave too much space to cause chafing (hikers will appreciate that!). They also did not shrink in the wash, which is always a plus. Overall, I'm quite pleased and would recommend this product.
Some of the Best!
I'm not sure what other people's issues are with these underwear. They are some of the best fitting underwear I've ever worn. I've been wearing SAXX, Exofficio, Ethika, and Under Armour underwear for years now. I do lots of hiking/climbing, overlanding, camping, etc. Most of the time it's either in hot and humid forests, or very hot and arid deserts. I also do lots of work on cars, and pull parts at a junk yard as a side eBay gig. So, my underwear gets lots of abuse and gets put to the test almost daily. I love the waistband, it's one of the most comfortable bands I've ever used. The length is perfect, tons of room in the crotch area for bigger packages. They wick moisture well, they dry well, and NO smell ever. I love them, and will continue to purchase more!
