Perfect Minimalist Day Pack!
I was going to purchase a day pack as my Stratos 24 is just too much for a day hike in the summer. This hydration waist pack is perfect for day hiking in the summer! After a while I forget it's there until I get thirsty then all I have to do reach for the drinking tube :-) I think this was designed with biking in mind but I hike a lot and a normal backpack hurts my shoulders after a while. I have plenty of room for water with the included 1.5L bladder, first aid / emergency kit, headlight, snacks, and even my Houdini jacket! Even when I was all sweaty, the way this is designed my back actually stayed dry and cool! I actually hiked longer than I was planning thanks to this whole kit even with water only weighed around 2.5Kg! Now that I have this I plan to hike a lot more often :-)
Good hip pack, expected Osprey quality
Never thought I'd buy a fanny (hip) pack, but I did. The construction is of Osprey quality and has the usual design (e.g. key clip, net pocket, inner zippered pocket). It does need to be cinched down pretty well to keep from sliding off. After I started riding, I forgot it was on and it was nice to slide it around to get things out. Plenty of room for snacks in the belt zip pockets. The magnet is a bit weak that holds the bite tube and I wish it had 2L for longer summer rides or a way to hold a water bottle. The bladder does take up a lot of storage space, I do realize I'm asking for more water storage yet complaining how much room it takes up.
Fantastic!!!
I had a spinal cord injury in 2020, so trying to stay hydrated in the summer in the Appalachians where hydrating is very difficult when you can’t carry it much on your back. I have tried a few different hydration backpacks, and all of them just hurt my back due to my previous injury. I found this and finally, finally! I can stay hydrated, and this waist pack also has enough room for all of my gear. I am able to fit my leathermen, my first aid kit, all my snacks, keys, flashlight, and I still had room for more stuff!
Great bag but!
A great bag but REI is almost double the price of every other store I looked. Ended up buying it elsewhere for $68.00
Easy and Comfortable
I have worn pack’s before. I initially went with Nathan as a backpack. They don’t fit the curvier body very well. I run. I was looking for a bladder but not feel constricted. This was the perfect option. I know some complaints have to do with the magnet. Unless the straw clipped a tree branch, it stayed on well. There is enough room to hold my keys, wallet, phone and several food sources. Also the bladder doesn’t leak like several brands out there. Excellent pack.
Good pack, poor hydration design
This is great as a pack for carrying small stuff. I can reach behind to open and close the zippers, and the side pockets are perfect for small stuff (keys, earbud case, roll of poo bags, etc). It's not so great as a hydration pack. I've been using it for walks and short hikes with my dogs and chose a hydration pack as much to have water for them as for myself. But the reservoir doesn't sit well in the pack, the tab that's supposed to help hold it in place doesn't, and the hose gets knocked loose from the magnet too easily. I end up using a lightweight daypack with hydration when I know the doggos and I will need water while we're out.
Great Hydration Pack, Perfect for Hikes!
I've been using this for hikes and honestly I love it. Fits snuggly in the lumbar curve of my back and I don't notice the weight at all. Plenty of storage for my phone, car keys, and a small snack in case I get hungry on the trails. It's super durable and I've hiked with it in the rain more than once with no issues. Took a few tries to get the hydration tube adjusted properly but now that I know how I like it, it takes seconds to set up.
Uncomfortable and hose is insecure and hard to use
I loaded this full with water and about 2 lbs of food and tools for a 6 hr gravel & road ride. Immediately, I noticed it would not stay put unless I cinched the belt (and compression) so tightly, it was uncomfortable...and then when standing, it would still slip on my lycra bibs. Hose is very difficult to reconnect to the magnet...needs a spring loaded lanyard/retractor to guide it back, and it popped loose in rough terrain and was dangling against my rear wheel. I gave up and stowed the hose planning to use it to simply refill my bottles, and the hose took a permanent kink and appears to have a crack developing.
Waist band is too thin, bladder not easy to clean
This pack was very disappointing. -I took i on several very long rides MTB rides and it consistently dug in to by abdomen so hard that it made me feel sick. I attribute this to how thin the wast strap is- maybe a thinner person could tighten the waist so much that the wings wrap around to the stomach, I am 34 waist for reference. -The bladder and hose are NOT detachable. How was I supposed to keep this clean? -The pack does have nice pockets, fairly well organized.
Comfortable, well designed hip pack
Perfect small hip pack! 1.5L bladder easy to fill and remove. No issues with water flow from a hip pack. I would have liked to have a water cap to prevent the drinking end from getting dirty. Very comfortable. Fits day essentials. Works well with birding or photography not needing to wear a backpack, in addition to a good day hike pack.
