Zippers suck
I’ve had this jacket for about a month now. I love the design and warmth. However, the zippers are terrible, in that they constantly snag with the fabric. By constant I mean that every second or third time I use a zipper there is a snag issue. Most have been resolvable, though annoying, except for one. This morning the zipper to the chest pocket (which also doubles as the stuff sack), snagged beyond repair. In the process of trying to get it loose, the zipper broke off of one side of the teeth. Now that pocket and the stuff sack cannot close. I’m very disappointed in this flaw of what is otherwise a great jacket. Will be looking to return and replace.
Very warm and lightweight but delicate fabric
I wore this in Glacier NP and it kept me nice and toasty in 35-40 degree mornings. It’s very lightweight and I love the colors. I like wearing bright colors on hikes to make sure I’m visible just in case. However, I had to squeeze by some bushes and a branch scratched part of the jacket and caused a small tear. It’s a really small tear but I was really surprised at how easily it tore and the material is difficult to sew myself without possibly causing more damage. The color I bought (Hot Tub) is unfortunately no longer sold anymore too. Recommend for more casual wears but not for intense activity.
All the jacket you’ll ever need
I have a confession to make; I’m not the most adventurous dirtbag around. I don’t need the warmest, lightest, uber-gear to bivouac just under the summit of the next peak I’m bagging. Don’t get me wrong; I love to geek out on gear with the best of them, but that’s not the kind of stuff I actually use day to day. I live in, work in, and love the Southern Appalachian mountains, and I work a (mostly) normal job. This is why I love the Cotopaxi Teca Calido, it is the perfect jacket for my everyday life that can pull double duty on early morning bouldering session, mid-morning snowball fights, and late nights around the fire.
Excellent Jacket, Not for Cycling
Overall, I'm impressed with this jacket (definitely for the price point) but the lack of elastic cord and cord links at the hood and waist are a drawback for me. By eliminating the scope of adjustment (whether retaining or venting heat), the design's success is dependent on how well the jacket conforms to users'/wearers' body. When purchasing, I intended to use this jacket as an all around cold to cool weather jacket for cycling. Now, I understand this isn't a cycling jacket, but as an average person who was looking for multi-use gear (a cycling and hiking/backpacking jacket), I went for it. I'm planning on returning it for something slightly more versatile in design.
Warm, not a performance piece but good style
Love the style of the jacket, the fact that it's reversible is nice. The 'plain' side with zippered hand pockets feels more natural. The reverse has two outer pockets, but the 'normal' hand pockets are those awkward not deep enough style, not sure why that happens. Biggest beef is that the jacket felt very clammy! I put it on over a t-shirt in 40 degree temps and felt warm but then began to sweat on my arms, like I was wearing a cheap rain jacket. I guess this wouldn't be a problem in a windy & dry place but I'm in Ohio - just felt like I would get overheated easily. Strangely, it didn't really keep wind out either.
Nice with two contras
I find the jacket very chic, quite light and the pack size super. The colors (my version) are great. Also, the jacket is very well made. That it is a reversible jacket, makes it super on trips, if you want to look different at times or just sometimes sportier, sometimes better dressed. I have two contras to the jacket, which I noticed quickly: 1) The material of the jacket is that of a tarp. That also means it's practically waterproof (I've used the jacket to fetch drinking water from the river for washing - I'm not kidding! It was just dripping from the seams). Rather a pro some would say - a puffy jacket that is waterproof. "Unfortunately" it is a reversible jacket and both sides have this tarp-like material. Means it's always a bit sweaty in the jacket because it doesn't breathe at all. 2) The hood is still too big even with a beanie and hoodie hood. Helmet-compatible perhaps, but above all simply large.

Great review, and thank you! :) You're awesome :):)
Runs very small, hardly any insulation
This jacket runs very small, I had to get the XXL and its still small, every other jacket I have is L or XL if I want it baggy. Also, it’s not very warm. I would say it’s only really good down to 50 degrees if that and not moving very fast. Typically I run warm so that may be 55-60 for most people. There is hardly any insulation from the belly up and the shoulders, where it is needed have none at all. I was hoping to get a technical jacket I could use outdoors in the winter but its best use appears to be a summer windbreaker/jacket for chilly evenings in town.
Warm, light, and durable!!
I actually wore this around Ecuador (hiking Cotopaxi volcanoe) in the winter and have travelled elsewhere in the world with this jacket. I have put it to some extreme tests and it has held up really well. It’s very light and surprisingly warm! I would definitely recommend this jacket. However, do be very careful with the zipper when packing it into the small portable pocket square for storage. Other than this the jacket is very durable and you can feel good about wearing it since it is from recycled/up-cycled material. Also, if you have some larger sides or a dad bod, it make help to go up a size.
Keeps you warm and dry with great colors
I got this jacket in Space Station and I love the colors (both the outer black/blue color and the inside burnt orange)! The jacket is super lightweight and packable into its chest pocket which makes it very convenient as an extra layer in your pack. Despite its light weight, it's also very warm and will keep you dry on drizzly days. if you go by the cotopaxi size guide, then you'll definitely get into the right size, but if you're used to other brands you may need to consider sizing up (I'm usually a M in Patagonia but L in this jacket). I've only had it for about a week but have worn it pretty much every day so far and look forward to getting it out on the trails this spring and fall!
