I've trusted Osprey's great designs, attention to detail, craftsmanship and durability. This is largely true for the Osprey Daylite Pack. Why only 3 stars? I have a short torso. That combined with the relatively stiff back, the longer main compartment, and the odd yoke location attaching the two shoulder straps far from where the straps attach to the pack either makes the yoke chafe the back of the neck or the bottom of the bag uncomfortably bump my butt especially when I'm jogging with the pack. The waist belt does not help the situation. I'm pretty bummed (no pun intended.)
This seems like a quality pack in a lot of ways, but it didn’t work for me at all because I have a short torso. There’s a point where the straps join together, right after they come off the pack (you can see it in the pictures.) That forces the pack to sit down a few inches below the base of your neck. Might not be an issue for some, but it made the fit of the pack completely unworkable for me.
Got this for day hikes in the city and nearby trails. Love that it has two side pockets for bottles, etc, as well as space for a bladder. I used a 2L reservoir for a 5-hour hike up/down Old Rag in VA, and the pack easily had room for lunch, sunglasses, snacks, extra layers, and more. Pack is very lightweight. Shoulder straps prioritize ventilation over padding, but are comfortable. Handle on top (mentioned in some reviews) did not bother me at all. Main compartment is roomy, and smaller front pocket has good organizational features. Unless you plan to haul very heavy gear, this is a perfect pack for a day out.
Both my husband and I have larger Osprey packs that we love. On a recent trip to a national park, I left my small day carry bag home, so was happy to see this Osprey in the park gift store. I was ok with the premium pricing because it was an Osprey. The pack is lightweight, has a great front pocket with an organizational space, and allows for plenty of storage for a daypack. However, when I cinch the shoulder straps up to where I want the pack to ride, the "handle" between the shoulder straps rubs against the back of my neck and is really uncomfortable. I end up loosening the shoulder straps and letting the back flop around a little to avoid this. Gave it to hubby to try and he had the same complaint.
I bought this as a bus commuter bag. I picked it up because it was lightweight, had chest and waist straps, front pocket with a key holder and two water bottle holders. Sadly the waterbottle holders are terrible; the angle of the opening plus the curvature of the bag causes them to fall out all the time! I finally had to use a carabiner to keep mine on. Also the front pocket is not very big. The two interior mesh pockets are nice, but I wish they had made this deeper. Or alternatively put another pocket on the inside if the main compartment, The daylight is a lightweight bag that comes in great colors and almost suited all my needs, but alas the fact it can't hold water bottles very well means I can't recommend this bag to anyone.
I got this to use as my hiking backpack and, for the most part, I haven't been disappointed. It has more than enough room for everything I need and the front panel keeps me organized. The key clip is especially handy, because that's the last thing I want to go searching for at the end of a long hike! I only have two complaints. One, I wish it had an external bungee to secure an extra jacket. It seems like a no-brainer. Secondly, the shape of the side mesh pockets means my water bottles aren't secure... and meant I had one go skittering down the side of a mountain! It's easy enough to buckle it into the side cinch straps, but it's still annoying. That being said, neither of these are fatal flaws and, for the price, this pack is great!
This is a fabulous day pack for travel or around town. I use this pack as a companion piece to my Osprey 46L which I can attach it to. I also use the Daylite for hydration which is perfect for treks. If you are looking for something that you can stuff android to the "gills" this is not the pack for you. I am a minimalist and for scooting out and about during the day when traveling thru cities and local areas it works perfectly. This pack is not designed for long term, high volume packing inside. You want an say on the go day pack - go for this one!
I've had this pack for about 3 years now and it is my absolute favorite. Whether I am going to work or out hiking, this is the pack that I use. When I hike, it's usually for a long day and I typically bring some cooking gear and my hammock. This pack is able to fit it all while still being a lightweight bag and relatively small. This pack is big enough to fit my laptop in the sleeve as well. The only thing that I do not like about it is how small the side mesh pockets get when the bag is close to full capacity. if I have larger items in the pack, I can't quite fit my 1L Nalgene in the pocket. But the fix to that is to clip it into the compression strap and then I'll never lose it. Overall, this is an ideal pack for anyone who needs that everyday companion.
First I will start the review by telling people to ignore a lot of the bad reviews on here. All those people complaining about water bottles falling out the side pockets bought the wrong bag. They are not water bottle pockets. This is a hydration day pack designed to attach to your main pack. If you are not going to use a hydration bladder then buy a bag with side pockets designed for water bottles. Bought an osprey 2.5 LT bladder and it fits perfectly in my main pack and this. My only minor complaint is the hip belt could be a bit bigger but if you use it how it is intended then it is fine. If you want a nice lightweight bag that can attach to you main pack and intend to use a bladder then buy this pack. If you want something with more features then buy a talon or tempest.
Just returned from several weeks in France and used the Daylite everyday. It was my personal bag on the plane and my urban bag while traveling cities. I loved that the Daylite securely fit over my carryon suitcase extendable handle when walking through airports or to hotels. The pockets were very adequate and the pack was comfortable as a sling over one shoulder or carried on my back. My one big complaint was that my small cycling water bottles were not secure in the side pockets. They would often fall out when I took the pack off. Osprey should fix this with a small cinchable strap as they have on some other packs. I know I could purchase the water bladder but I don't care for those in an urban setting. I could also put a water bottle inside the pack but that's also not very desirable.
