Great lounging pants with innovative features!
Great pants and very comfortable. It’s 100% nylon but very comfortable compared to other pants made of that material (almost felt as if it had some cotton in it). The design and fit was excellent. Some particularly nice features: - I like that it doesn’t have a back pocket where it would typically be uncomfortable for these types of pants. - The front pockets are staggered a little bit forward so anything you put in there rests stably on your front upper leg rather than awkwardly shifting to the side which can also be a common issue for other pants like this - Best feature is the lining behind the stretchy parts on the waist and back part of the cuff. Usually, the expandable part is uncomfortable but REI solved this by putting that smooth and soft backing layer! This also makes the cuff feel like a normal cuff while preserving the stretchy function. Love this! Took off one start for breathability. Took them out for a short jog and it got clammy which is to be expected with this material. I wish there were some vents (either a zipper vent or even micro holes cut into the fabric). They don’t feel clammy when not exercising though so they are the perfect before/after fitness pant and for just lounging around.
Ended up loving these pants
I wasn’t exactly sold on these pants when I got them, but they’ve become one of my favorite go-to’s. I think as a runner, pants are an inherently tricky thing – we’re not used to wearing a lot of clothes and those we wear are consist of trim, bare minimum fabrics. I have run in tights plenty in cold weather on dark, wintry nights, and they work well and feel “right” as far as running apparel, but I just wasn’t ready to run in tights in the light of day. These pants are lightweight, super comfortable, and well cut/tailored for a slimmer feel and decent look. I’ve even started wearing them around the house when I want something comfortable on. They pack small and stash easily for an extra layer hiking or for travel. The only thing I’d add is a back, zippered pocket for my keys and a slim, elastic thigh pocket for my phone. There are two pockets on the sides where you’d expect them, but I hate running with keys jostling around in those pockets and the awkward shape of a set of keys rubbing on my thighs. Same goes for my phone – I like to have the few items I carry snugly secure against me, not bouncing around. But I find most athletic apparel is lacking a few key pockets. That’s why I bought a heavy-duty sewing machine – I just add my own pockets :)
Great multi use pants
I would like to start first with the only downside I experienced with these pants and that is the sizing. I received a pair in XL and there are huge I attempted to wear these with no base layer but they were just way to big around the waist to stay up. I tried them again on a cold rainy day and this time threw them on over a pair of thin sweat pants. This was a perfect combo as the trek pants are constructed of very lightweight breathable water resistant material. I believe these would make great jogging, biking, and hiking pants and also nice pants for lounging around the house. I would recommend to order 1 size smaller for a good fit.
Relaxed fit and option for Short sizes
I bought these and the Patagonia Terrebonne Joggers at the same time, and ended up keeping these and returning the Patagonias joggers. These have a bit more room in the crotch and thigh, which felt like it would be less likely to rip out. These feel like a lighter material than the new "knit" version of the active pursuits pants, which is what I was looking for. Kudos to REI for offering a Short option for the sizing, as well. The regular size M bunched up and dragged on the floor if I wasn't wearing shoes or boots with them. I don't mind the drawstring cord on them, but I can understand why some people don't like it. I recommend buying a smaller size instead of relying on the drawstring to cinch them up too much.
Very comfortable. Uncooperative drawstring.
I was a little perplexed by these pants when I unwrapped them. They’re cut like joggers but the fabric sort of reminds me of those swishy jogging suits that were popular in the 90s. But once I put them on, they were great. Zippered pockets, lots of stretch, nice fit. The only downside was that I just could not get the drawstring to tighten sufficiently. I don’t think they run big - the fit otherwise seems good - it might just be that the cord used for the drawstring is too slick and slides loose over time. They never fell down, but I don’t think I’d trust them to stay up for a workout if I had my phone in my pocket.
It Does it All!!
I use these pants for thru-hiking, one-bag travel and for big presentations in the office - it’s so versatile! Mind blowing how these pants can take on the Sierra but can also pass as nice pants on a night out downtown :) I appreciate all of the unique design details thought out: the back-knee ventilation is a game changer, kinda surprised other technical clothing designers don’t implement this.. zipped pockets keep belongings secure when scrambling or biking to work, or going through sketchy pickpocket areas. REI’s got a winner product here, hopefully more colors come out!
REI co-op active pursuit tech pant
The pants are awesome. This is my first pair of tech pants like this and I haven't wanted to take them off. I wear them around the house, on walks with the dog, to the mall for shopping (socially distanced, of course), and to REI to pick up other gifts I ordered online. The fit is a tiny bit bigger than I expected, but the waistband string helps draw them up to fit just right. The pockets are more on the front than the side, but I've grown to really like where they are. The elastic at the bottom of the leg is just the right size and strength. Really, this has become my new favorite pair of pants. If the weather is too cold, I'd need something warmer, but living in Dallas, they're perfect for pretty much all winter.
Excellent all-rounder
I’ve had these for a couple months, and I have been very impressed with them so far. I have worn them running, climbing, for basketball, as a baselayer, and as sweats around the house. The fit is pretty good, but not perfect. I am 6’1” 190 lbs and wear a 32 pant. I own these in a medium. I find them to be on the short side and the waist is too big. However, I really appreciate that the lower leg is sized so that they don’t grip my calves, which is a deal breaker on a lot of track-style pants. I do wish that the waist was tighter and that the drawstring adjusted them better, but they’ve never fallen down. Fabric is great, but on the noisy side. The stretch is awesome and they wick and dry fairly quickly, I’d compare them to Arc’teryx’s Gamma SL fabric. FWIW, the olive color seems to have more sizing issues than the black; the waist is definitely bigger. Overall, I like these a lot. I already own two and am strongly considering a third pair in case they’re discontinued.
Pleasantly surprised
These pants run big so you may need to size down. I had to take my initial purchase back for smaller size. Price point was higher than what I usually spend but since it was REI so I decided to go for it. These pants have held up well from lounging around to hitting some trails. No rips or tears after some light bouldering and rough terrain. I recommend 3-4 months after purchasing.
Very comfortable and lightweight
This pants aren't perfect, but I do like them. Very lightweight and comfortable. Kind of a cross between a track and running pant. Great for around the house or outdoor activities during the spring, summer, or fall. Not really a winter workout pant IMO without an insulating layer underneath but I think it depends on where you live (not here in the upper Midwest). As others have mentioned, the waist and drawstring is a bit of an issue. I'm 6'4, 260lbs and ordered the Tall XL. The length and overall fit is perfect except that, even with the drawstring fully tied, the pants tend to feel like they're going to fall down. They won't of course, but they do feel a little loose. If you can get over that then these are great. I bought a pair in each color and decided to keep them because I liked everything else about them.
