MTB Riders,Get All-Metal Lever: Mount/Lever Issues

I wish I had listened to one review that I read about this model not being as good as the metal band mount version. This non rubber mount with a fixed diameter tends to rotate on handlebar more. It also means taking off the grip to install it. The lever is fixed as well so the angle to ring can be hard if the bell rotates on handlbar at all. i would recommend putting some sort of adhesion on handlebar and it would be easier to consistently ring. Another thing is because it’s so long of a lever, the bell won’t ding unless you cock it back fully so there’s a much higher rate of no sound which is the biggest bummer. If you have crampy thumb muscles, like keeping your hand on grip fully and hate ringing at a specific angle, GET the metal U lever version!!! definitely not worth the $10 difference. I LOVE that version, this rings duds and thuds at a higher rate. I can see this being good for non-MTB riders since your hands are stationary so I’m moving this to my commuter or road bike.

Ding Dong Just Buy It.

Perfectly discreet and loud enough to warn pedestrian trail hogs of your approaching distance. Did a bit of research on bells and there were too many described as not loud enough so I broke down and spent 42 on this one since I really didn't find any noteworthy complaints.

bell head jumped off my bike while riding!

incredibly short life span‼️ i’ve had cheaper bells that cost half as much while lasting 100 times longer! this thing seemed well built until the head jumped off my bike - without warning - mid ride - to my shock and disappointment — this bell was great for a very short time! of REI didn’t have one year returns, i’d get a different one, but i’ll swap it out for another one of these and hope for the best, hoping maybe the first had a rare internal defect that got overlooked or something ¿🤨?

bell sounds great, REI packaging is so wasteful

Bell sounds great as always, I prefer the USA made ones, but this will work for my townie just fine. REI, please do better with the packaging!

Great Bell!

I've been looking for a small bell. Saw this one in the store and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did! It's unobtrusive, weighs next-to-nothing, and has a clear loud sound. It fits perfectly on my Jones H-Bar. I highly recommend this bell!

Mediocre

I have the all metal Spurcycle bell on a different bicycle and it is worth every penny. The plastic mounted bell, not so much. Pay the extra few bucks and purchase the all metal bell if they have both in stock. The bell seemed decent on the first ride but on the second ride it seemed faint. Going to return it and purchase another all metal bell.

Perfectly-sized bell if you don't want a bell.

I watched various Youtube videos on bike bells and settled on this one. I've been riding mountain bikes for 32 years and have never, ever wanted a bell. However, with so many more people on the trails due to the pandemic, I thought it would be a good idea to alert people I was passing or if going around a blind corner. My fiancee and our friends are also riding more on railroad trails where there are more people ambling around, possibly causing a crash if they're not aware of you. The bell is little but carries a nice, sustained sound; people definitely hear it. It's one of the smallest bells around, and the matte black means it's barely noticeable. Downsides? Price. Quite expensive considering the cost of the off-shore knock-offs. Despite this factor, I thought it was worth the money and ended up buying a second one for my significant other.

Volume Too Low

Nice design and small size is unobtrusive on handlebar but not loud enough to be effective.

Perfect for Bromptons

Brompton riders, this is the solution to the anemic bell that came with your bike. Easy fit, authoritative ring, does not affect the fold. It's nice having two bells because sometimes the quiet bell is all you need. Tested for two weeks in Netherlands, where all bikes have bells and riders are not bashful.

Simple and Perfect

It's hard to imagine a better bicycle bell. It was super easy to set up, and doesn't have a lot of parts, so I suspect it'll last a long time. It sound is loud and clear, and the black color fits great with my black handlebars (there's also a silver model, I believe). Very happy with this.
