Nice product but misleading fit
The foot rails work well with my 2017 Subaru Outback and they were easy to install. BUT it took me several different order to get everything. The rails don’t come with the locals, you have to order those separate (at this price point that is a miss on Thule’s part). Also, there is an additional fit kit needed and that isn’t even sold at REI so I had to search for it elsewhere. These two items added $200 to the overall price of the roof rack system. The process and the exclusion of needed components left me feeling hesitant on future Thule purchases.
Insane why thule doesn’t include the metal bracket
This product is USELESS without another metal bracket to actually clamp it to your thule rack!!!! It should be mandatory to select the bracket or else you opt out by saying you don’t need it. Instead thule charges you $61 for each plastic foot piece and then has the audacity to charge another $37 each, for the inside metal clamp. I understand there are a multitude of vehicles, racks and fitment options, but they are extorting their patrons through requiring multiple purchases that could be bundled together! REI could also step in and help streamline this insanity, as you know 99% of people purchasing the $250 foot pieces will not already have the INSIDE metal bracket parts. I mean come on!! Shame on you thule! If I didn’t already own 2 hullavators and an evo wing system I would definitely be jumping ship, perhaps my review will help others before they get sucked in, or better yet, perhaps someone at Thule will listen and include the complete functioning foot piece set in a pack for say $300.
good
good, stop complaining, research before buying
Very secure
I have not used the rack yet. I only use it to transport our tandem bike. My wife will only use the bike trails. We bought a new vehicle and I just assembled the rack yesterday. We have a 2023 Nissan Rogue and my old rack was for my 2012 Nissan Sentra. That rack would clamp onto the roof inside of the doors. This car has flush roof rails and I needed to install 4 brackets that bolt into the roof and then the rack clamps onto those brackets. I mounted my old tandem rail onto the new rack as well as my 2 other rails. This rack is more difficult to mount to the brackets compared to the old clamp on rack for my Sentra. It is a good system though and very secure, Just takes more time to clamp to the brackets. My experience with Thule is that they make very good roof rack systems.
Flush rail rack system
This is my fourth Thule square rack system. My first was purchased in 1995. The current rack system still fits the bike carriers and kayak carriers I have from the previous iterations. The flush system has some advantages over the last system we had for a flat roof CRV. The brackets screw into preset holes in the rack, so no measurements are needed. And the width adjusts automatically on this foot. The only drawback is the torque wrench on this foot is quite stiff at 4nm. My wife has a hard time getting it to tighten fully. Including a cheater bar or other way to generate leverage would be nice.
Bad Info
Pictures of the item show it with a mount fitting on my car, implying that it all comes in one package for a certain price. No where does it offer the fit kit or suggest anything further to buy. Disappointing.
Ford Escape 2020 Sunroof
I finally found a crossbar setup that works on my Ford Escape 2020 w/ sunroof. I have had no luck with finding one anywhere. This one actually works. You can't put any mounts that go on the underside of the crossbars. Whatever accessory you use has to go on the top tracks of the crossbar.
Good and solid but poor instructions
Good product, BUT.....I have written several product manuals in my professional career. The instructions that came with this 3 piece system were horribly obscure. I understand that they need to be in all languages and pictographs are an inexpensive way to do that, but having to sort out my components from others in the same instructions and decipher the pictographs was frustrating. The QR code video is a good idea but the link did not work. Also, the end of one of the bars had been dented in during shipping and needed to be tapped back to the correct shape for the end cap to fit. Bars should be better protected in the box. When installed, the rack seems solid and there is no significant wind noise.
Incomplete and Incorrect Product Description
Advertising of this product is a joke. I should have read the reviews before placing this order because everyone is correct, I received half of what is needed to actually use the rack system. Super frustrating since the photos show the entire system. I also get to spend another $150 for the foot attachments and wait another week plus to receive the item.
Great looking system and very functional
I installed this roof rack system on my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. It was easy to install. It fit correctly, except that there is a small gap between the roof rail and the rubber feet This gap may not be a problem if its OK for all the weight on the rack to be transmitted through the Flush Rail Evo metal bracket to the 8 (2 per bracket) roof rail screws and threaded mounting holes. I like the new Wingbars with the split rubber bumper that allows one to attach different rail mounting accessories quickly and seamlessly without having to tie them down with an ugly strap. I haven't actually tried to mount any accessories yet though so we will see how well the work. I don't hear any noise from them when driving at highway speeds.
