Good snowshoe, defective material and no service
I bought my atlas snowshoes at REI, a model that looks like this, but no longer offered (K series). After many years of very occasional use (max 10 times), the bindings just shattered on both feet. I know it is out of warranty, but this is a design aging defect. Everything else in the snowshoe is fine and has aged well. No response from Atlas; I was even willing to pay something to fix them. I understand it is tough from their perspective, but it would be nice to have a dialogue and figure something out, like sell me a binding at a discount that I could install.
Top Notch Snowshoes
I got these as a first pair of snowshoes. Though they are 30 inches long, and based on my height and weight, I should use 22 to 25 inch snowshoes, these are amazing. They have cleats, and heel risers to make climbing steep terrain more comfortable and less difficult. The binding system is simple. Even with gloves, these snowshoes can be removed. The only minor problem is the heel strap's free end may become tangled under the foot. Over all, these are a versatile and economical item. Their ease of use and trouble free use has me hooked on show shoeing.
Hope for Sinking Paul
Couldn’t recommend the folks at Atlas any more strongly. I also had disintegrating bindings on my Atlas snowshoes purchased in 2001 at LL Bean. Bean provided me with proof of purchase and Atlas honored its lifetime warranty and sent me new Access snowshoes. The disintegrating bindings is an acknowledged problem from yesteryear. Call Atlas directly to set up a warranty claim. Good luck.
Fun for newbies
These were great for going around local trails and along the river. We sank a little more than expected, but that might be more about our technique…or lack there of. Easy to put on and most any boot will do; my Oboz hiking boots worked better than my son’s army issue winter boot. We had fun and are planning on trying them at snowshoe yoga.
