Bought a 2nd pair after using regularly for 8 months. Perfect amount of cushion for me ; many trail runners are harsh on anything but a soft trail or huge amount of padding; this shoe is a nice middle ground; shoe is a little clunky for fast running but highly durable as a daily trainer I got many months out of first pair and cushion wore out before the rest of the shoe (tread is worn down but still usable) . Heel loop is not useful for me ; the collar seemed to help ; and was not a problem. The rounded heel and middle might be a problem for some runners but didn’t bother me; might notice on a ; rocky ; off camber steep down hill .
Been messing around in cheaper trail runners whilst I got over my loathing or running and feel in love with it. So then dropped the hammer on these after watching a few online reviews. The build quality is great, the design is on point and most importantly they give me support and bounce on the trails. They feel like they are propelling you forward and I am now getting far less pain in my Achilles after a run since wearing these. They feel narrow (for my wide foot) but after 30K they are a comfortable fit. Still a little hot spot on the big toe due to upswing in the shoe but I can feel the material starting to relax. Going to get plenty of time in these.
Such a nice looking shoe, and comfortable. Out of the box felt good on the trails, but there seems to be a difference in the design of these versus the Wildhorse 4 and 5's (which I've used for the past few years). In my first 3 runs in these (about 30 miles) I've rolled my ankles probably 10x, when I maybe had 1-2 ankle rolls ever in the 4's or 5's. Going to be returning these. I'm not sure the design difference, but they are not nearly as stable on technical trails as the 2 previous versions of the Wildhorse.
First off I would like to say how comfortable the 5's are. Out of the box they feel like you are running on little clouds. Smooth on the ankles and great traction on all terrain. Although mine blew out on the toe box I would highly recommenced the Wildhorse to any and all trail runners. I think they helped me set a few course records this past year. Nike.... What the heck is up with this goofy traction on the Wildhores 6? Why change something that was perfectly fine? The traction/knobs worked great on the Wildhorse 5's and Kiger 5's. With the "new" look of the 6's I will not buy them.
I have tried many trail running shoes from Salomon to new balance and even other Nike models. This shoe has taken through the most toughest mountains in southern California from San Grogornio to Mt Baldy and even Iron Mountain! The fit and support are superb. Sole is thick to get your through rocks that are the size of marbles and you wont loose your grip. Even in light snow terrain they push through just fine. Highly recommend. You can see my history of runs with them on IG; hiking_king_
Just took these out for the first run and they're the most comfortable shoe I've ever run in. My knees aren't great and these have wonderful support and traction. Not waterproof but the mesh does have a rubberized coating which makes cleaning them off easy and does keep some wet out. Currently under $100 which is a steal.
Sometimes it takes a while for shoes to break in. These shoes broke in after a single run. And once they did they are just about as comfortable as any trail running shoes that I have ever used. I really really appreciate the extra cushioning. Looks wise I would say you either love them or hate them but didn't matter to me because I only use these shoes on trail and they stay dirty. I was going to get a second pair but then I saw the version 7 came out, so time to upgrade to a the the 7s. If you run trails and don't need something that is waterproof, buy these shoes.
I loved the detail in these new trail runners. Bought for use and not for fashion I appreciated the trainers features. Soles have grips which are designed in opposite directions front and back in order for stable launches and landings. Grips are defined and run up high on toe and heel for loose surface climbing and decent. The shoes are lightweight, the insoles are forgiving and the laces are slim and resist unfastening. If I were being critical I’d lose the sock like trim on the heel. I don’t think it’s needed and it doesn’t look as slick as other designs. I’ve only been out in the shoes a couple of times so unsure of how they might wear long term. My last trail runners lasted some years so let’s see what these guys can do!
These shoes are so unstable due to the high stack in the midsole. They feel great, and well cushioned, on flats and straightaways, but the second you need to go uphill or turn, you will find they slip. Coming downhill, particularly on the steeper inclines here in the southern Indiana hills, these feel downright dangerous and an ankle injury waiting to happen. Returning them before i hurt myself. I wanted to love these, and thought I would, but I will never stray from my beloved Terra Kigers again. I'll take less cushioning for a locked-down fit any day.
If you're looking for a nice introduction to trail running and are confused by all the options, this would be the shoe I would point too. With a beginner friendly drop at 8+ that provides comfort mile after mile, these shoes will gladly answer your call for the trail. The react cushion provides a smooth ride and paired with the rock plate provides unmatched cushion. I was suspicious about the gator set up originally that makes this shoe a semi-mid but now wish it was a standard issue feature everywhere. It provides sock level comfort while providing protection from dirt and dust. No more heel blisters for this guy! I'm about 100 miles into my pair and have had a great time with them, my only gripe has been performance in deeper mud. Running mostly PNW forest trails and logging roads things tend to get pretty sloppy out there. In a little mud I have not run into problems, but in deeper stuff these have been ice skates compared to my old SpeedCross 4s.
