Dont' Recommend
My kids ski in the cold Northeast, and my daughter complains of cold hands every time. They also show signs of wear, and I don't expect them to last more than 1 season. The cuffs are too short, and exposes her wrists, which adds to the colds hands. The water resistance is very poor, and there is no zipper compartment for hand warmers. These mittens used to be my go-to for my older kid. However, quality and design has gone down. The cuffs used to be longer, was very water resistant, there was a zipper for hand warmers, came with a wrist leash, and lasted for several season and still looked brand new. I don't recommend.
Serious downgrade from prior years
The Timber Mountain mittens used to be the go to for the kids in our house. They were burly, warm, and durable. They had wrist leashes, long cuffs, and hand warmer pockets. The updated models lost the long cuffs, leashes, and hand warmer pockets. The material is now flimsy. The old mittens were well worth the premium price. These new ones are worse than what you can get at Target or Wal-Mart but still triple the price. Do not buy.
Works great for the mountains!
Daughter is 8 years old and is using the medium size. Skiing in temperatures in the 20’s and typical playing in the snow. Keeps her hands warm and dry. Buying another pair for her sister! Quality product!
Material peeling off palms
We had the previous version of these mittens and they were great (durable material). This version has fallen apart after 1/2 a season and I'm in the process of returning to REI. I don't recommend these mittens.
Not durable. Had to return after very limited use
The palm is not leather but a very flimsy synthetic material. After only using them for skiiing for a total of 7 days, had to return because the palms were peeling off. Of course, this compromised waterproofing as well. Not worth it.
Great mittens
Bought these mittens last year for my 5 year old daughter. She is hard on all her gear. These are still going strong a year later. I wash these when dirty and put them on our boot drier. she never complains of cold hands and we live in the UP of Michigan. I have bother the toddler version as well. Buying 2 more pair for her and her sister this year. They are great all around mittens. She wears them everyday to school and skiiing.
Downgrade
The main issue is the mitten soaks through very quickly. The fabric is more of a rip stop material vs. a durable Cordura like canvas it used to be. Not the same quality that REI provided a four years ago.
Great Mittens to keep little hands warm all day
I bought these mittens for my two girls who got into skiing this year. They are perfect for cold days and long days on the mountain. The first pair of gloves I bought them, they were both crying about cold fingers. Switched to these mittens and they haven't complained once and have spent longer hours on the mountain. Highly recommend.
Great mittens for kids!
They're waterproof, warm, and have wrist straps to help my kiddo keep track of them. Probably best for younger kids who don't need as much dexterity with their fingers while playing, but mittens keep fingers warm so older kids might like them too!
Cozy mittens
I love the soft warm lining of these mittens. And they stop the wind in all weather. But after just over a year, the shell is tattered. I wanted REI to replace them for me but it was just past warranty.
