I bought these gloves about a week ago. Today I noticed that the stitching in the fingers has started to separate. Yes they work great to access your phone but the quality was incredibly subpar. I have a pair of e-tip gloves I bought 10 years ago that I was replacing. I never had an issue with the old pair. The difference in quality is night and day.
In the spirit of wanting to help other customers make a good buying decision, I didn't really want to give these a star rating, but I will just take the one star off for sizing. The quality of the gloves themselves seems as expected. I really came here to say that the sizing chart offered on the website for this product was useless in my case. It suggested a medium. I was skeptical, but who was I to question a sizing chart, I thought. Well, just my fingers alone don't even fit inside the bottom hem of a medium glove. It seems small for a medium, and now I'm even wondering if a large will be big enough. And no, no one has ever said that my hands are unusually large. I was hoping to avoid a trip to the store, but now I will be going anyway, to return these for a (considerably) larger size. Once I find a size that actually fits me, I may revise this review to include other details.
I purchased a pair of these on 1/23/22, on 1/28/22 I discovered a small tare in the ring finger stitching. I didn’t do any activity in them that would put any extra strain on the material But for the time before the tare, they felt great, and worked great with my phone (which has a protector). I was impressed with that part. The gloves warmth is in line with what I expected based on the thinner material. With the exception of these gloves, all north face gear I have bought for my family and I have held up.
I use these for running in the Pacific Northwest. It's winter, it's often cold and wet, and I needed a new pair of hand warmers to get me through the season. I've taken these out about 10 or so times in dry, rain, and snow conditions so far and they do the job keeping your hands warm. I have washed them a couple times and they are holding up pretty well so far. The ability to use a touch screen was nowhere in my search criteria but it does work and I admit it is nice for taking a quick trail view or selfie. My only complaint is that they run very small and are a little tough to take off after a hard run. I wanted a light, tight fit but stopping to use a dog waste bag for my running buddy is a bit arduous. Overall a good value for the product just order at least one size up or try on in store.
The sizing on these runs small, very small. I measured my hands and selected a size L, and when it arrived, was WAY too small. I had to mail them back to return them ... costs $5.99 in postage to me. I would suggest ordering two sizes larger than the size guide indicates.
These gloves are comfortable once you get them on but the wrists are very tight for a hand to pass through and not elastic at all really. I got these as a present on Christmas day and tried them on. I didn't wear them that weekend and now on new years day a seam on the left index finger has started to let go. So within 4 days of light use (walking the dog and driving to work) they have already failed. Product is trash in my eyes.
These gloves (large) fit my *hand* just fine, and an XL that I tried in the store were a little large. But that's not the problem. The wrist band felt a little tight going on, but I hoped that they would give a little with some use. Not really. I arrived in Chicago today and had had to run a couple of errands downtown on foot. Then it started raining hard with true Chicago winds. Coming out of a building I was struggling to get them on, and finally gave up and stuffed them back into my pockets. I think if you have narrow hands, these might work. But there is insufficient stretch in the wrist for normal male hands. By no stretch of the imagination should these be considered "unisex". Be sure to give them a good fit in the store because they aren't going to get any easier to put on. Hopefully I can return these...
Honestly fit really nice, first ever gloves to really fit me, 5'9 and 115 pounds. But I was using both an underliner and these gloves and was still freezing with them on. I was warmer taking them off and then putting my arms in my jacket. Also mad I lost one of them, but wouldnt buy them again unless theyre like 15$. Not worth the price if you want warmth.
A little pricey, but I wanted a good pair of gloves to wear for morning hikes. These were a nice weight, not too bulky and they actually worked with my iPhone. Unfortunately they tore along the thumb the first time I wore them and I hadn’t even finished my hike. I didn’t have poles or anything to snag them on either. Very disappointing considering the price. When I returned them to REI the sales associate commented this wasn’t the first time someone has returned these due to the quality.
I can use my phone like normal with these gloves, doesn't slow down texting. Below 30° your hands may get cold. They are breathable, but consequently not windproof. Only gripe is the durability of the grippy section. 1 month in of use every 3-4 days and it's practically gone. Luckily REI is generous with their exchange policy, so I will exchange these and reserve that pair for gentle activities. My main uses were skate skiing, classic, and driving. Classic XC took the most toll.
