[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered a Large size for my husband but the design is different from what I see on the website. I called customer service and the representative said that L has a different design. Really? It doesn't make sense... I wrote to customer service. No reply...
I can feel this is a very good jacket, but on the second use, the leathers are coming out of the jacket. I will return mine in exchange for a new one.
I work outdoors sometimes installing cameras in Minnesota. During winter I needed something that would last and keep me protected from the elements. This parka is exactly what I needed. The built in face mask into the hood is especially convenient when carrying tools and hardware when up high on lift. All and all this is even better then a carhart for outdoor job sites.
My original Mcmurdo is nearly 10 years old and still looks great. It could probably last 20+. Which led me back to buying it once again. I wanted a different color and a new jacket in general. I live in NYC and it can be cold for 5-6 months. You can literally wear a T shirt under this jacket in 15 degrees and you will be toasty. You can wear this in rain, sleet and snow and it will hold up. I even wore my original in a hurricane one time. The pockets are always nice. You can hold a decent amount in them. The hood looks nice too. North face typically delivers excellent quality. Which is hard to come by in today's world. Overall phenomenal jacket. Look forward to many great times ahead wearing this jacket.
I am on my 2nd year with the McMurdo Parka size XL, Men's, Utility Brown. And this far, I will never own another coat brand other than TNF. The McMurdo Parka is, in all sense of the word, Perfection. (in my opinion) the warmest winter coat I have ever owned in 43 years.
This is an extremely warm jacket which holds really well from warmth perspective in the New England winter. I literally start to sweat if the temperature in above 40 degrees. However, the zipper is seriously badly designed. First of all it does not start from all the way down (rather 4 inches from the bottom) which makes it harder to find. Secondly, putting the zipper sides together is such a hassle it takes a couple of minutes to just get it together and zip up. It gets extremely frustrating after a while to waste time on it. I am seriously contemplating returning it to North Face for this reason alone. or take it to a tailor to fix this issue.
I've been looking for a warm jacket to wear in zero and below degree temperatures and I am not disappointed! I got it in the mail just in time to use on a snowmobile trip today in Alaska. The temperature was right at zero degrees with a negative wind chill while riding. I was only wearing two thin long sleeve shirts underneath my jacket and stayed very warm. Can't wait to use it for more cold weather activities in Alaska! Would definitely recommend and would purchase again. Well worth the price point compared to Canada Goose with the same amount of style and quality.
I really shopped around for a new Parka after it stayed sub-freezing for over a week. I generally wear Columbia, but didn't see anything I really liked. I'm between a 2x and a 3x. I tried a Triple FAT parka - very nice but the 3x was very tight. I also tried a low price parka but it was too heavy. I tried the McMurdo 2x in the store, liked the weight and ordered the 3x. Very, very nice coat for the money. Only criticism is the zipper needs to be bigger and you really need cords to pull the coat tighter around the body. I think I got a good deal. I did probably by buying the parka keep it from approaching zero in New Jersey for awhile. So it goes.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Feel like someone's second handed clothes. There are many white spot? Just feel dirty of it.
I haven't been able to fully use this jacket because it's hasn't gotten that cold right now in New Jersey. However I do know that in the next 2-3 months this will become my everyday jacket. The only problem is that the wrists come with a Velcro patch that allows you to fasten the jacket, unfortunately it doesn't wrap around your wrists to accommodate to individuals with larger or smaller wrists. As a result I'll have to take it to get customized at a tailor sometime soon. Other then that the jacket itself is amazing. I purchased the black Mcmurdo and honestly it's nothing like the photo. It's a nice deep black color, no gray whatsoever.
