Must-have winter bib tights
I got the size large and they run true to size. I am very impressed with these bibs, and they have been crucial to being able to enjoy difficult rides in unforgiving weather. They handle rain pretty well, and if I do get wet they retain heat marvelously. The coldest I have ridden with these bibs was about 22°F and I was plenty warm. They wick sweat away, and the chamois is comfortable. Great freedom of movement in the knees. My favorite feature is the wind resistance in the crotch. No more frozen nether region on long winter rides.
Too Much AmFIB and no Ankle Zips Is not Good.
P.I. covers the entire front and the upper backside of this bib tight with AmFib which sounds great in theory if you want good wind protection. However this material isn't very stretchy and having it completely encircle your crotch/hip/butt area makes these real tough to get on & off. To add insult to injury the zip-less leg openings is both covered in AmFib in the front and uses a stitch that makes the opening even less stretchy so getting them on/off past your heels is even more challenging. Once on these do fit quite well for a size Small (I have a 28" waist and normally take a size XS in Pro-level P.I. bib shorts so that's a good thing, but it means that others might want to size up like with Castelli's). My last quibble is that having 3/4's of my lower body covered in Amfib makes it feel like I've been bubble wrapped (though I didn't ride in these to see if that feeling disappears). I think that P.I. should interrupt the AmFib encircling the crotch/hip/butt area with a material that is much stretchier and make the leg openings stretchier too (or not extend the AmFib down your shin or go back to using ankle zippers). These changes would help make these much easier to live with (and besides I don't see why this amount of AmFib is needed since wind is mainly an issue for your thighs & knees and perhaps the sides of your hips). This is what Castelli does for their Sorpasso Wind bib tights and it works well. As it is these in a size Small might be fine for someone who is skinny like me (say a 28-29" waist), wants the maximum wind protection, and is willing to wrestle these on & off each time & then feel like you've been shrink-wrapped.
Warm!
These bibs are the warmest! They are also fairly windproof. Good into the 30's. Maybe too warm when in the 50's. I'm 5' 11" 165# Large was too small, XL fits well.
