Good for colder rides
Bought to replace an older pair of PEARL iZUMI tights. Looking for bib tights for temperatures between 25 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit as the others worked well in this temperature range. Have ridden now at 28 degrees and these feel good. Was warm and comfortable with only the single layer. Was also concerned with the removal of the leg zippers, but these do fit easily over the feet. Did not go 5 stars because the material in the bib area is, in my opinion, a step down from the previous iteration. I am 5'7" and 145 Lbs and the medium size is just right. Anyone larger may want to consider the larger sizes. I am in Massachusetts and ride year around, these bib tights will work for most cold weather rides.
Not as warm as I expected
I carefully read the product description before I ordered these and, based on that and experience with other Pearl iZumi tights and leg warmers, I purchased these with the expectation that they would fill my need for anther pair of bibs for the 20-40 F range. I wore them today for the first time on a 35 F day. I had overdressed somewhat, not knowing how warm these tights would actually be. As a result, my core and torso were on the warm side but my legs were noticeably cold, particularly around the upper inner thigh and groin area. So, while these tights will do fine for me in 40-55 F weather (which is actually the point where I usually switch to shorts and leg warmers), they did not fit my need. I will keep them anyway because they do fit me very well (size large, I'm 6'0" and 170 lbs) and I can use them, but I'll be continuing to shop for something with more insulation for winter riding in my Northern climate. I've rated them average only because I felt the product description did not match their function and they end up slotting into a temperature range where I would typically wear something else (at least for me).
Perfect Fit, Warm, Comfortable
I'm fairly new to cycling and tend to be someone who gets cold easily. I've taken these out in in 32 degree weather with significant wind chill and wasn't cold at all. The fit is ideal - I'm 5'5" and 148 lbs and the medium was perfect. The shoulder straps fit comfortably over a thermal base layer, and with a cycling jacket on top I was good to go. I'll likely be picking up a 2nd pair soon.
Good for cycling in 35-55 degree weather
I like these cycling pants for rain cycling (though they are not waterproof) and cycling in the PNW winters. I thought the legs should be a little more roomy/stretchy around the widest part of the calf and thigh because they feel quite tight on my athletic build. I also prefer for the bib straps to have seams (like on the older styles of bibs). The seamless ones twist easier and take longer to untwist. Also the itchy tag holder on the left hip can be removed with a seam ripper. The chamois are a bit overkill in terms of padding but they work fine.
Comfort? Yes Warm/Thermal? Heck No
Read previous review that material was thin, yes it was, comfortable and good padding but total failure in PAC NWST winter conditions high 40's, Wind, drizzle - legs were freezing. No way is this thermal, REI you are a trusted advisor and should hold your vendors accountable to deliver.
great fit
I’m 5’9 165 lbs, Large fits well. The straps are the only area that feel subpar. Great for 50 degree weather
Just what I needed
I’ve had these for about a month and the coldest I’ve biked in them so far was 29 degrees (Fahrenheit). My average speed was 17 mph, making the windchill feel about 17 degrees. Other parts got cold, but my legs were just fine. These bibs can definitely handle colder temps. And they’re ok for warmer temps too, I think 40s would still be ok. They have a good range.
Great on long rides
Incredibly comfortable on a long day ride in 45-50 degree weather here in Seattle.
Good, but older model was better.
Good, but not as good as my old pair (over seven years old). Overall good weather tight. My older PI thermal tight was better made and had better thermal properties. Without that comparison I still rate as a very good tight for thermal properties and wind blocking.
Helps keep the back warm
Keeps me warm riding in Chicago fall weather. Fits perfect.
