Happy to have these bibs

4.5 stars I have been trying on bibs for three seasons waiting to find a great pair. I really like the fabric of these: light but feels durable with just a little stretch. Fully taped seams and quite comfortable all day on the slopes. I tried on last year's model and didn't buy them because the fabric was so thin it felt like it would rip, and the fit was quite baggy. Both these issues have been improved with this year's model. I purchased the size XL. Only major criticism is that there is no drop seat so you have to take everything off for trips to the restroom.

Fit, but I returned.

I ordered three pairs of bibs and was extremely surprised when all three pairs fit me! I am 5'1" with athletic hips and calves and have a really hard time with snow pants and bibs. These actually fit, but I ended up keeping the REI First Chair bibs as the fabric felt really flimsy to me. I also don't think these had a clever zipper for quick pit stops. I think if you were looking for a waterproof, lightweight spring bib, these might do the trick, but I was in need of an all-season product, so ended up returning.

Very comfortable

I am just over 5 7', 125lbs and ordered a small. At first I thought they were too big but now I've grown used to them. I have room to layer for sure. I'm sure I could have worn an xs for a more fitted look but then I would have lost the length. I've worn them skiing and hiking. When I fall in powder too much, the dampness does soak through , but not sure that can be avoided entirely. The only thing is that I wish they had created a flap to easily use the washroom.

Great Bibs!

Love these bibs for snowboarding. The straps clip away for an easier time in the ladies Room. Very lightweight, but so far great waterproofing. NW skiing can be wet at times and these have been great. Definitely need a heavy weight base layer if it's super cold out. A little loose in the hips, but not bad. I'm always in between a M and L so no surprise there since I ordered a large. My only complaint is that they run very long. I have pretty regular length legs and I have to fold the bottom outer cuff once or twice so they aren't dragging under my boots. Minor inconvenience. Also the Lichen color was not as yellow as the pic indicates. Much more green/brown in color. I still like them a lot so didn't send them back based on the color difference. I have boarded 4 or 5 times so far as well as used them to play in the snow/sled/tubing with my kids. Would recommend!

I love 'em

Not sure what took me so long to switch to bibs for backcountry skiing. I think my greatest fear was how hard it would be to pee in them. Well, I find it easier than with pants! I tried it out at home to see what it required. The key is to pull the zipper all the way down. The improvements are you just pull the bibs across your bum and squat and there are no pants bunched up below and no peeing in your pants (yes, that has happened.) And it doesn't require a major squat to have them out of the way. Then, bonus two, when you are done and you stand up to zip up the bibs, your butt is covered, your front is covered, and you can casually pull up your undies! Just blown away at the improvement from pants. I love also that I can layer a couple pairs of long undies and have no constricting waistband. These bibs are thin but easy to layer. Love having my iPhone in that chest pocket. The only downside of the Carbide bibs is that they are too long by about three inches (I got a size large, 31.5 inseam which is my inseam) but I just roll them up when I take off my ski boots. Also the hand pockets are too deep and my beacon just sags low on my thigh which is a tad uncomfortable which is why I couldn't give them a five star rating. But wow, I'm a convert. Love the Carbide Bibs!

Perfect Shells

Really great shell bibs. I originally purchased thinking they were insulated, unfortunately they aren't and I run too cold to wear these much until spring skiing begins. I love that they come in short sizing. For those of us on the "not tall" side of life we no longer have to deal with the puddle of fabric at the feet that are always dragging the ground when not on skis. Fantastic LONG side zipper and elastic straps make these pants a breeze to utilize the restroom without having to take off your coat. Not sure why the zipper is on the opposite side than the Snowcrew Bibs. Although odd, does not deter from the usage of the bibs.

Tougher than they feel

These pants are super lightweight and surprisingly durable. When a lift closed and I had to unexpectedly go down a long chute of ice, I took off my skis and slid down shamelessly on my rear (I'm coming off some injuries and a chute seemed like a bad idea to try to ski). I slid down over rocks, ice, slush, and dirt and they held up. They also hit the middle between loose and form-fitting, and the pockets are HUGE. There's also a dedicated beacon pocket which is clutch. Last, despite their lightweight-ness, they seem really warm. I wore one pair of thermals underneath on a 20 degree day that was dumping, and I stayed dry and warm.

Disappointed with quality

I'm disappointed with the quality of these bibs, especially for the price point. After about a month's use, the fabric is tearing at the seams. This is most noticeable where the fabric is reinforced near the inside of the ankle. The fit is good (5'4" and 140 pounds) and medium fits well. They are a little long, but a non issue with a boot with a thick sole. I have other Outdoor Research products that have held up for years, so I'm upset with this investment for snow pants that aren't as high quality and are already falling apart.

Great lightweight bibs

These are my first set of bibs that I got for primarily inbound use. I tried on probably 5 other sets of bibs and these by far felt the most comfortable for my body type. I'm 5'2" with a wide load in the back and these were the only bibs I could squat in that didn't feel like they were going to rip open. SCORE. I am super short, and these did run long on me. However, once I got my boots on it didn't seem to be an issue. Material is super lightweight and waterproofing seems to be descent. I wore these in 20 degree weather with heavy snow and they did the trick with just a wool base layer underneath. Perfect for layering. The material feels so lightweight I have concerns about durability, but we'll see as I continue to use them - so far so good! Also the color is fantastic, I love it. Only downsides are the lack of dropseat. Going to the bathroom will take some coordination. It's awkward at best. I also found some of my pockets start to collect sweat moisture which is a minor annoyance, and I'm sure any bib will do that, not just these.

Defective and Disappointed

I was very excited to receive my purchase (I bought the bibs and matching jacket) until I noticed the sewing of the shoulder straps is very uneven. The right shoulder strap is sewn in a few centimeters further in than the other, resulting in an uneven fit. I reached out to customer service only to be told there is nothing they can do about the defective item they shipped me, and I can only return it. I am disappointed with the quality of the bibs and the lack support received from customer service regarding an issue out of my control. Hopefully this is a one-off and does not happen to others ordering from OR!
