Good to eat
First time having this flavor. Pretty good. Actually, dare i say.... better than the beef chili mac? I think it was.
Excellent but small portions
I have loved Mountain House meals for years and the stroganoff is my favorite. But the new smaller portion size of 2 servings (560 cals) just isn’t big enough for a full-grown human who has been lugging a backpack around all day. Hey Mountain House, if you have to charge more, then do so, but don’t skimp on the portions! The Pro Paks give you slightly more but still not nearly enough. I think 8-900 calories after a long day in the woods is more appropriate. Maybe you could make a hungry hiker size with 3 servings? These still taste great but for now I will be trying out some other brands with bigger meals.
Darn good
This was our first Mountain House meal and we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. We were camping in northern Wisconsin and found that adding a bit more water, maybe â…› of a cup, and letting it sit an extra minute helped the meat rehydrate better. My husband and I shared one bag and with some vegetables on the side it was just the right amount of food.
Fast and Delicious!
Great texture and hardy. 1 package is perfect for a large appetite perfect to split for two with smaller appetites. I added some chives to it and it was even better!
New 2020 line has too few calories
This product had 650 calories before the new 2020 line came out. The new mountain house line is just less food for the same amount of money (560 calories total for the package) and will leave you hungry while backpacking. Compare to backpacker's pantry or good to go, which average about 700-800 calories per pack.
Backcountry classic
There are few things more disappointing at the end of a long day, than discovering that the trendy new meal that you're trying for the first time actually tastes like garbage. MH Stroganoff is probably the classic backcountry meal. I've carried this for decades all over the West, and it's never disappointed.
Stroganoff in the woods
Stroganoff while camping adds an element of international adventure. Enjoy stroganoff anytime because your Mom won’t be showing up to criticize your choices.
No longer our favorite - what happened?!
We used to rely on the Mountain House beef stroganoff as our favorite, REQUIRED to be in the pack for one night of every trip, and saved for the end of whatever was the hardest or most celebratory day. But something changed in the recipe, and we're no longer big fans. Sad. Bland now, and maybe the beef is lower quality?
Would eat again
Tastes very good and super simple to use. I used a small camping stove and a stainless steel cup so the water was boiled in like 3 minutes and I was eating in less than 10. The bag zips up so you can save half for later if you want.
One of my favorites!
This is one of my "go to" meals when going backpacking. Found some wild ramps in Northern MI and added them to the mix....demolished
