Comfortable and Heavy
Really comfortable and heavy jacket, if that's what you're looking for (which I was)... more like a Carhartt work jacket than anything else in the REI catalog. I bought some wax to make it more waterproof, but seems fine so far in drizzles (here in Seattle). I may not be cool enough for this jacket, but I'm wearing it anyway :-)

Perfect jacket, except the pockets
I wish I could give it 5 stars, but 20 minutes after purchasing, I was admiring the soft pocket liner, and with very little force, it tore the stitching from the top of the pocket. I thought it had to be a flaw in the stitching, so I put the same amount of force on the opposite side pocket, it also tore a few stitches out. Not upset enough to return the jacket, but I now know how cautious I have to be with the pockets.

Great jacket! Gun Metal is green

Gun metal is dark green! I actually love the color, but the photos online indicate gun metal is dark brown. It is not brown, it is dark green. As others have said, the zippers are sharp. That’s the only real downside to this jacket. I’m 6’, 175 lbs, 34” waist, 42” chest and a large fits great. It’s not baggy but has enough room for a sweater or sweatshirt underneath. It’s a little more snug than other large coats I have owned. So if you’ve got a larger chest or waist you should try it on in a store. There are no adjustments at the wrists/waist/hood and there are no vents. But I absolutely love the looks and can’t wait to wear it. And with my 20% coupon and membership rewards I got a great deal. REI rocks!

I'll use this for years to come.

I've had mine for a year and a half with extensive use during winter months. It's my jacket for everything. I have zero complaints so far. The build is solid and nothing is tearing or falling apart. The waxed canvas works well. I've used this in snow and rain, but have not yet been caught in heavy downpour. It's very warm, sometimes too warm, I just haven't bothered to get a light jacket yet, haha. It's worked to keep me warm in 15 degree Fahrenheit weather. Happy with the warmth. Happy with the waxed canvas. Happy with the build quality. Happy with the fit and look.

Heavy, durable and comfortable

This jacket is well made. The lining inside is very soft and will keep you very warm. I’m 6’2” and bought a large and the jacket is just right with enough space inside to layer up for those colder days. The wrist cuff with thumb loops are a little short for my longer arms but not by much. The material for the cuffs is durable though and I don’t plan to use the thumb loops except when my hands are in the pockets so it works just fine for that. This is definitely my go to jacket for those colder days. This is on par with a nice Carhart jacket I also own but the lining inside is of much better and softer quality.

Super Warm for the Price

I bought this to replace an old blanket-lined barn coat that I used as a primary winter coat for cold Chicago winters (layers > fancy parka any day). I sized up so that it would accommodate layers more easily and it's incredibly warm. I was between this and a coat that was almost double the price and I think this might be warmer - even on those nasty days. Great internal and external chest pockets, very spacious, hood is great too. My one complaint is the hand pocket zippers are kind of sharp, I'd have preferred a snap enclosure there.

Fantastic jacket!

First, it's unclear why Kuhl has called this a hoodie. It's a jacket...with a hood. A coat, perhaps. What a great coat it is, too. One of the best I've owned. It's wonderfully heavy, well-made, and comfortable. The combination of the waxed canvas exterior and plush fleece interior stops wind and makes for great warmth. I've found this coat to be perfect for the the temperature range of 25F-50F. You'll overheat wearing this in weather over 50. You might be okay down to even 20F but will need decent layering (it's not going to work for more extreme cold). One note: Contrary to a couple of other reviews, this jacket is not waterproof at all. You needn't worry about a short drizzle but be aware that the material actually tends to absorb, rather than repel water. You absolutely cannot wear this in significant rain or you'll wind up with a waterlogged coat. I haven't experimented with waterproofing it but plan to check what's recommended for a waxed cotton canvas fabric before applying anything to it. The hood, which is also fleece-line, is very comfortable. The zipper pockets are great and the knit cuffs with thumb loops are a nice touch for keeping out drafts, along with the back knit hem. The main zipper pull is a little small; this is a minor point but I plan to add a larger zipper pull to make it easier to grab. Overall, though, I am extremely pleased with this item. It's a very good looking coat and I've been complimented on it several times. It's become my go-to jacket for dry, moderate cold weather. I thoroughly enjoy wearing it!

Best jacket I have ever owned

Got this for Christmas and I can say without a doubt it is the warmest most comfortable jacket I have ever had. I don't even need to turn on the heater in my car and can ride with the windows down in the middle of winter. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Almost perfect

This is a definite keeper! Jacket is very well made, warm and has a more “tailored/euro” fit. Hood is warm and accommodating, plush fleece lined all throughout. Only reason for the 4 star is cause I would’ve given 4.5 or higher. The only mark against this jacket being cause the fabric material of the of pockets could be more robust. Just travel light.

Quality & Functional

This is one the best, if not my favorite jacket I've owned. It fit exactly to spec, the inside is incredibly comfortable, and the outside has a durable texture that feels like it will last a long time. It looks and feels better than pictured (or at least as good) in my opinion - can't recommend this more.
