So, I love this jacket! It's a perfect mid-layer or light outer-layer! Flexible in places that matter, durable for my daily activities, warm enough in winter, water-resistant enough that I don't feel bad for a quick dash in the rain. I even love the redesign features, having two pre-resdesign and two post-redesign. My only qualm is the color... the "dracaena" looks pretty much brown on every screen I've seen it. Brown/beige on REI, Backcountry, the Arc'teryx site. Came in the mail today: 100% army green, even in the sun. A little disappointed, really. Everyone I've shown it to and shown the product picture to seems to agree with me.
Second Arcteryx atom I’ve owned. Last one was from 2019. They updated the zipper tabs and hem length. It’s longer on the bottom and the zippers have a rubber pull tab. Side panels stretch and add breathability. I’m 5’7 175 lbs and the medium had a little bit of room not skin tight. The small doesn’t fit my back. In the medium it doesn’t feel like my lats are going to rip the jacket. Good standalone with weather in the 30s-40s. Would be a little too warm for me if active in temperature in 40s. If it’s super windy and cold outside doesn’t do a good job stand-alone. Great insulator in freezing temperatures when paired with a shell.
This is the fourth of these I have purchased for members of my family. We all love them. My son had outgrown his previous jacket and wanted another like it. The weight is light, it can pack down for travel. It spans from a light jacket day to light snow/below freezing. It is comfortable and moves well. The frequency and use these see makes the cost a relative bargain, even if it may look a little steep initially.
Early this year, I stumbled upon this jacket in store and fell in love with it right away. I always preferred insulated jackets with a slimmer silhouette, so this fit the bill perfectly. I especially liked how there were no seams that you can feel... everything was put together so seamlessly haha. But, I decided to pass on it because of the price tag, hoping it will be discounted later in the year. To my surprise, IT WAS! I bought the green (with the yellow lined hood) and I love it so, so much. I cannot wait to take it on work trips and road trips. If you find it in your size, don't pass it up. You won't regret it!
or does it?.... I was ready to question the fit based on other reviews. I find the fit to be fine for me (size Medium). compared to the small, I can reach my arms over my head and the jacket will not ride up when I lower my arms (if that makes sense). This jacket proved to be extremely warm for being outside daily for 10 plus hours, outside temps. 40º average with moderate activity. The Atom LT insulated Hoodie jacket was even warmer when activity increased. I tend to wear this under a light work (chore coat style)jacket. I only wish it had a two way zipper (though not a game changer for this jacket is still very flexible) and that the logo wasn't on it.
This is my first synthetic jacket I’ve owned and I am overall impressed with the performance! This lightweight synthetic insulation is great to wear as an outer layer on a cool day. The material’s ventilation and wind protection is excellent so far! However, since this jacket is only water resistant, I would recommend wearing this jacket as a mid layer under a rain shell when trekking through anything greater than light rain exposure. Even if the jacket does get wet, it continues to keep me warm and dries and wicks the water out quickly! I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for an overall warm, lightweight, and breathable jacket that can be worn is most situations!
Light weight but kept me warm during the costal storms. Money well spent I bought another one for my kids
This is the first jacket/coat I've had that actually "regulates" temperature. I've worn it, alone with just a t-shirt, in the cold and breezy heat, sitting at coffeeshops and multiday 14er/backpacking outings. The technology of this jacket is kind of mind blowing. It's Arc'teryx so that immediately means expensive but this jacket is worth the price. Highly recommend. It makes an amazing mid-layer in the extremely variable conditions I face living in the Colorado high country. Pair this with any rain shell and you're set for 9/10 adventures (winter expeditions might require different considerations). Highly recommend.
I love the jacket, but compare to the previous model it has a big flaw. The elastic wrist cuffs are too loose. Old model cuffs were tighter. If you are going to use this jacket for riding a bike (or any other sport) like myself during fall or winter, all the cold wind will get inside the jacket. I would like the old model back or tighter elastic wrists. For casual wearing is perfect, but keep in mind this review if you want it for sports in chilly conditions. If they fix this issue I would definitely be the perfect jacket. Consider other models or brands if sports are going to be your main activity.
I just finished my first chilly outing with this jacket and I loved it. Very comfortable and breathable. It also rolls and folds down well to store in my packing cubes, which is how I organize and carry my hiking clothes for the ready.
