Excellent durability and performance on ice
I’ve used the majority of ice screws on the market, including Black Diamond, Grivel, CAMP, and Blue Ice. Petzl screws bite the ice well, screw in easily, rarely get plugged with an ice core, and hold up over time. Some other brands (Grivel, Blue Ice) are incredibly difficult to drive and often get plugged up. CAMP hangers come loose over time and flop around. While some of my Petzl screws have been driven into the rock and gotten dinged teeth, the majority are still going strong after five years.
Light and sharp
These screws are pretty light for all steel construction, lighter than all the other full steel screws. They are so sharp that it is almost effortless to get them in the ice. Not sure if it is because they are thin and light steel but they seem easier to place than the Light version or the BD Ultralight, especially when it is really wet. I really like the large hanger, it is easy to get multiple carabiners in them at the belay. The 13cm is such a great all around size for most ice climbs, it's my go to ice screw.
Durable and Sharp
Durable and sharp -and lighter than most other all steel screws. I guide with Pisgah Climbing School, and climb with a mix of these and Laser Speed Lights. These may be slightly better than their aluminum counterparts for anchors in full sun, due to the steel screws not melting out quite as quickly.
All you need in a screw.
Durable and sharp -and lighter than many other all steel screws. I guide with Pisgah Climbing School and climb with a mix of these and the Light aluminum model. The all steel screws may be a bit better for anchors, since they have the advantage of not melting out as fast as their lighter aluminum counterparts.
