Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Excellent versatile jacket
I wanted a jacket for day to day use which was insulated and water proof. Its surprising how few jackets are available with this combo..and the ones that are available are extremely expensive. This is a reasonably priced jacket with all the features and excellent fit. Its a quite more waterproof than my Patagonia DWR coated Nanopuff. It isnt going to be as waterproof as some of the high end Goretex coated jackets but for simple daily use like walking dogs, popping to the store, etc. it works very well. It has pit zips for ventilations which works very well. The material seems very durable and strong. Not as thin as my Patagonia Nanopuff (which is still very durable) and way better than the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer jacket (the material on the MH Ghost Whisperer will tear if you look at it wrong). For fit reference..I'm 6', 235 lbs and broad shouldered. I normally wear XL, but the L fits me well in this jacket with a bit of room for a wool sweater. Pros: - Price - Fit - Foldaway hood - Insulation - Pit zips Cons: - The pit zips are just one size oversized..so it bunches a tad. You just need to pull the edges down - The pocket zippers sometimes catch on the material. Maybe once in every 20 pulls. Nothing major..the fabric is well constructed so it unbinds easily

Not great.
Lets just say if i had paid the full retail price of $179.00, i would have been very disappointed and returned it immediately. The two primary problems i have with the jacket are the hood and the pockets. The hood does not have the same loft fill found in the rest of the arms and jacket torso, which means while it is wind proof and at least waterproof in light mists (not had it in downpour yet) it offers almost no trapped heat. Maybe that is good on summer days, but for shoulder seasons it means i need a hat for my bald head, otherwise my head is the outside temperature just without the wind chill. Second problem is the hood bill and velcro backstrap. The bill comes down to far over your forehead and is not stiff enough to hold its shape, meaning it flops over your eyes. You can flip it up, to gain a wider angle of view, but then you have little rain protection from forehead down, and i imagine in hard rains it will just pool where it has been flipped back on itself and then eventually soak through. Last quirk, and alot of companies do this and it makes no sense to me....the pockets are lined, but only on the part again your torso, not the outside pocket material. This means that if, oh lets just say...its 35 degrees and the wind is blowing at 30 mph... your body heat cant fill the pocket area because it has been insulated "inside". Adding to the cold is that you have no insulation on the back of your hands, on the outside pocket material to trap hand heat and so you end up with the same cold feeling the hood leaves you with. Otherwise, the Jacket lofted liner feels nice on the inside, fits slightly loose but is contoured to my body shape well and can layer with a light flannel well, neck gaiter is great. For half price, it was worth keeping

GREAT INSULATED JACKET THAT WILL KEEP YOU WARM

Received free product

This great insulated jacket, will work for any outdoor activity. What I love about it, it’s not too heavy, but it keeps you incredibly warm. I’m 6’4” 270, and the XXL fits me perfectly. Use it for your casual daily walk or hike, fishing or camping. You can carry it with you, and you wouldn’t feel the weight. Under the armpits, there’s a zipper, that you can open for ventilation. The front side, offers a zipper, but also some velcro for a better seal. When not used it, the hoodie can be folded in the back of your neck. I’m going to keep this jacket in my car, ready for whenever I’ll need it.

Nice to have insulation

Received free product

I've always liked my waterproof/breathable shells that I could layer under in colder weather, but I find that this jacket with the insulation spans a broader range of conditions. The insulation allows just the jacket to be worn when things get cooler. And, when things get downright cold, you can throw on another single layer. REI construction is top-notch. Sizing was good--not too bulky, but enough room for another layer if needed. Waterproof and wind resistance as expected. This jacket has pit-zips, which I've never been a big fan of, but they are there if you need them. Overall a solid addition to your collection.

REI Rainier Insulated Jacket

I wanted a comfortable form fitting waterproof jacket that I could wear around town and in the woods. It works perfectly fine by itself in the low 40’s, wind proof as well. In the 30’s it’s fine as well if I’m moving. The hood has a nice feature that allows it to be adjusted so as not to fall in over your line of vision. I have used it in outdoor church services, light cross country skiing and snow shoeing. I’ll continue to use my older baggier outer layer shell that I meant to replace with this one. This one looks too nice for me to mess it up with a back pack or working in the yard in the rain. This will be my non strenuous foul weather gear to keep it looking sharp!

very very good

Thanks for the preceding reviews, very helpful in my decision. I like this jacket a lot. I ordered a large and it fits my 67 year old, out of shape frame very well. insulated but not too warm. The length of the sleeves is about perfect. Theres room to add an inner layer if needed for much colder weather. I wanted a waterproof jacket that I can use out of the door for walks in the Pacific NW and for outer coast hikes and possibly clam digging. The pocket are lined for warmth. the hood seems to fit fine with a suitable brim. As another reviewer noted however, the color choices are sadly lacking. Black looks nice but is just plain stupid at night. I got the grey but may modify with some reflective tape.

Very comfy, medium warm.

Note that I'm not a hiker or camper, I just wear it around town. Also, I get cold easily. Soft, flexible, breathable, light and comfortable. Haven't been out in the rain yet, but expect it to be watertight. Seems like a "typical" rain-resistant exterior. Not super-warm (and doesn't claim to be.) I fine it comfy down to about 35 degrees F, with a fleece vest underneath. Good for cool fall or spring days. Excellent "car coat". An "up down" zipper would be a great addition; but that's my pet peeve, I think every coat should have an "up down" zipper.

I love this jacket

The color is on point. The sleeves are a touch long (I’m about 5’ 10”) but other than that it fits great. It has enough room that I can still layer for warmth if needed but doesn’t make me look or feel like the Michelin man. There is a draw cord around the waist and velcro at the wrists. Can’t say enough about the pockets and the hood that rolls up into the collar. Pit zips are a bonus. This thing has kept me warm & dry in the rain and snow already.

Solid Fall/Winter rain jacket, lacks breathability

Received free product

I have used this jacket nearly everyday in the 10 days after picking it up. Its early June and still quite rainy in the PNW. The jacket fits roomy, but not baggy, which I like in an outer layer. The waterproofing has so far been excellent. We have been having some serious rain showers and I was dry after extended time outside. The insulation is light and more than sufficient if, like me, you run warm. The pit zips are very needed, as the primary down side to this jacket is its breathability. You warm up quickly, but the humidity rises fast in the jacket when the pit zips are closed, especially if you are active while wearing it. The Rainier insulated jacket is most at home as a rain jacket for casual to moderate activity in the Fall and Winter.

Like this Jacket

I am 6 feet high and slim (+/- 140 pounds). After checking in the store, I decided to get size XL. Fits just right in the sleeve length, goes down clearly below belt line (which I like), and allows me to even wear a down puffer below. Pleasant material to the grip. Warm enough on its own for chilly days or nights. My first experiences were that rain just beads off. I cannot say how long the waterproofing lasts, but overall the jacket appears of great quality.
