I tried this sleeping pad in my apartment before camping with it, and it seemed totally fine. However, as soon as I got into the quiet tent at the quiet campsite all my friends started laughing hysterically because it was the loudest thing ever! Ever time I moved a single muscle it squeaked. It made my friends crave chips because it sounds like crinkling a super loud chip bag. I immediately began looking for a new sleeping pad and tried out the NEMO tensor insulated sleeping pad, and it was significantly quieter. However, I found myself much less comfortable on it than I was on this one. The Nemo also packs down much smaller. If you’re camping alone and are a heavy sleeper, I’d go with this pad, but if you are camping with friends and don’t want to be afraid to move a muscle at night for fear of waking everyone up, I wouldn’t recommend it.
I’ve used this pad on backpacking trips in Utah, North Shore Minnesota, Patagonia, and Washington. It’s super light, packs extremely small, and doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to set up. I’m a side sleeper and found that the cells distribute my body weight so that I don’t bottom out. Even though the R value isn’t super high, it protected me from the cold ground in 20 degree weather. The only reason why I’ve taken off a star is because I’ve only had it for 2.5 years, using it a total of ~10 times and it already is leaking air and keeping the inflation. For the price, I would expect it to last longer.
The specs say that it weighs 1 pound 3.5 ounces or 20.5 ounces. I have a very accurate food scale and the pad alone is 22.8 ounces. When you’re going long distances and need to be accurate on ounce counting, the actual weight is very important. I’m using this pad in a hammock so it will be sufficient for comfort and insulation, but I’m already annoyed that it’s heavier than the pad I was comparing it to.
I bought this sleeping mat in hopes that it would be more comfortable than my previous one and it definitely did the trick. The blow up feature is super easy and doesn't take much time or breath. It was also really comfortable to lay on, even on my side. It also is very light. It almost feels like carrying a feather. It isn't the smallest packed but the lightness makes up for it. FYI, I am 5'2" and 120 so the regular worked well for me, but it wouldn't work well for someone who is over 5'5" I would say. It's just not very long. I was super happy with my purchase though and can't wait to have a good night's sleep on it again.
This is a great pad for men or women. I'm not sure why Sea to Summit and other pad companies think men have fat heads (the men's version of the pad is wider in the head area). The women's large size is good for me (5'6" / 130 pounds). I like the width since my arms fall off the sides of "regular" width mats. When paired with a Z Lite Sol foam pad (R2.0, 14 oz) the combination is great for winter camping on snow. This is a replacement for my REI Flash which sprung multiple leaks at the welded seems after only a few nights' use.
This is my first sleep mat. I chose this one due to the weight and packed down size vs. R-value, as I wanted it for backpack camping. It does pack down very small in comparison to my boyfriends sleep mat, however the downsides to this is that it is less warm and thinner. I try to sleep on my back, but often end up on my side and can definitely feel the ground. I also recently used it on a camping trip where the temperatures got down to around 10 degrees at night and I was freezing! This mat also makes a lot of sound if you move around in your sleep. It is super easy and quick to inflate, no need to blow into it!
Super easy to inflate with the integrated stuff/inflation sac, lightweight and packable. However, it is thin and collapses quite a bit with body weight. 5’3” and 100 pounds but bottomed out if I did anything but lie flat on my back. Cannot imagine using it as a side sleeper. Additionally, any movement is amplified by the noisy fabric.
This pad is much more comfortable than I expected for a pad this thin. I've used it in a tent, a bug bivy, and my hammock so far and it is very comfortable. One of my favorite features It is easy to inflate with the end of the storage sack. I appreciate the repair items that were included. I only used this in warm weather so I cant speak to how it performs as insulation, but it provides a lot of comfort from the ground.
I ordered a few ultralight backpacking sleeping pads to try and lighten my load from my old, traditional thermarest pad. This arrived today and I blew it up immediately. Although this came with the inflatable apparatus, I just use my lungs. It blew up very quickly - because this pad is quite thin. It was comfortable enough (I am a small person) but it is very noisy! There seems to be a coating on the fabric to perhaps keep you from sliding off the pad while in your sleeping bag but it makes farting noises as you move. Furthermore, the fabric also make crinkling sounds like a potato chip bag. I knew the mixture of the two would not permit a good night's sleep so it's going back.
I felt as if I were in my home bed, completely comfortable, with no pressure points, yet it is light and easy to inflate and stow.
