Versatile and has exceeded our expectations

This cooler is one of our best purchases. And my wife, who initially did not see why we needed this, now raves about it. We have used it for tent camping and vacationing. We paired it with a PLB40 battery from Dometic for uninterrupted cooling in the woods (2.5 days) or when turning off the car when driving on a long trip. We’ve transported frozen food on a ten hour drive for a beach vacation and maintained a steady 5 degrees F in the cooler. And then once we got to our destination, we used it as a beverage cooler in a condo to supplement the capacity of the refrigerator. And you’ll love the fact that there is never any melted ice soaking the contents. Absent the Normal volume of ice that you normally have to put in a cooler, this cooler holds more for its outer dimensions than a traditional ice cooler. I researched many options and brands. You get what you pay for. This is a first class piece of equipment and has exceeded our expectations.

Cord Broke, No Warranty
Annie
I purchased this cooler earlier this year. Recently, the cigarette lighter cord broke (literally fell apart as it was being unplugged). I contacted Dometic for replacement under the 2 year warranty, and they said "we do not have replacement parts for the CFX3 coolers available at this time." It seems they won't honor the warranty, which is concerning on such an expensive item.

Wonderful concept and great for certain use cases.

If you'll have access to power or only need to keep things cold for 30 hours or so in the summer, then this cooler coupled with a GoalZero 500 is wonderful. But if you are hoping for a longer term, you'll need multiple batteries or a good solar system. As for how well it holds up, it looks to me like one side is bending, which may explain the rather meh performance. Don't get me wrong, there's lots to love about this unit and the ability to have ice and a cold drink, I was just expecting a bit better performance.

Very Inconsistent with 12v

This is a great cooler when it decides to work. I have found it works great off 120AC, but extremely inconsistent when running of 12v. I constantly get the compressor fault warning! 33 and it makes a loud clunk from the compressor when it’s powered on. I run it off Battle born batteries and they always have enough power to run the cooler. Some days it works, some days I have to constantly plug and unplugged it to get it working again. While it is great when working, I would probably buy another brand if I had to do it over again. Very disappointed that I paid $1,000 for a unreliable cooler.

nice powered cooler, ice maker impractical

Had this product for about a year and it’s high quality and efficient for the most part. When camping and powering via battery I have found that unless you have a really big battery (much bigger than the dometic battery you can purchase separately) you are better off not trying to make ice. Without making ice though the dometic PLB battery will keep the cooler running (at fridge, not freezer temps) for a weekend To be honest I would highly recommend this product overall, but wouldn’t recommend it for the ice making function as I avoid having the ice maker enabled.

Broke & DOMETIC won't respond

I purchased this in Feb, 2020 mainly because of the ability to make ice. It doesn't unless the temp is turned down so low that everything else freezes. Now less than 3 years later (Fall 2022) the thermostat has stopped working. It will not turn off despite the temp setting thus freezing and ruining all of our food. Ok, I understand that things break - I HAVE EMAILED DOMETIC CUSTOMER SUPPORT 3 TIMES WITH ZERO RESPONSE. I seem to have no avenue to have this repaired. The RV shops that I contacted won't touch it.

Excellent fridge/freezer. I recommend this item.

Excellent portable fridge/freezer. Have used this on multiple trips. Added 20 amp/hr deep cycle battery with separator to our Prius. Will easily run the fridge when driving and parked for hikes or camping.

So promising, and yet failure

WE ordered two, and the first arrived with a broken 120v inlet, the second worked for 12 days, and then the compressor died. When we called Dometic, they basically said they dont support the "non-RV or Marine" equipment, and to take it back to the place we purchased it. Same story with their certified repair shops, they only want to repair the RV or Marine equipment. This unit seems so much nicer than the CC40 I am currently using, but the CC40 is the only one that has been working consistently for the last 3 weeks.

Ice Maker on the Road 'What Wizardry Is this"

Dometic has done it again. Fantastic well built product, on standard cooling mode it uses very little power. While Making ice Just about 3 hours (Room temperature water start) Just over 2 hours (Pre-chilled water) Power consumption doubles on Ice Mode Ice does not stay frozen more than a few hours after you turn off Ice Mode Worth every Watt used to have ice in my drink at the end of the day

junk

I was very excited to finally get a 12v cooler. This looked like a good one from what I could gather online. It worked fine when testing as home and on a short day trip fishing. Now one day before my first camping trip with the cfx it’s shows compressor fault warning! 33 and makes a loud clunk from the compressor when it’s powered on. The cooler seems to run off 120AC, but won’t run off 12v. The whole reason you’d buy a powered cooler like this is to run it off a vehicle or aux battery, and it won’t do that! Don’t be fooled by the dometic name and thinking this must be good since REI sells it. Its junk and I’ll be returning mine as soon as I get a chance.

Returned it when 12v completely failed

List some other reviews mention the 12v was very inconsistent. The 110v always worked, the freezer setting got a lot of food down to 4F in a few hours. At first 12v in my car first seemed to work, but then would only get food down to about 39F. I even tried it in my boat where I have two large house batteries. When the same house batteries were running the cooler through the inverter at 110v, it worked fine, but then going directly into a 12v socket to the same batteries and the cooler would barely get below 40F. Then the 12v side died completely. I took it back to REI and they quickly refunded me. The mobile app that comes with it is sort of clunky but overall works. I only wish it would remember the temperature level when you restart the app. There's a graph that shows how the temperature level changes over time, I guess they expect you to keep the app running forever.
