Good coverage & protection
I haven't had a chance to take these outdoors yet, but did take them to multiple gym sessions. My knuckles felt well-protected, and the extra rubbery layer felt almost tacky on the rock, like a nice sticky-soled climbing shoe. The cut of the material around the thumb felt awkward during hand jams, but they made my fist jams feel effortlessly bomber! The flat velcro closure stayed secure and out of the way. Sizing notes: I got the wrong size. Photos are of me wearing size S. My hands are 6.5" around the knuckles and 5.5" around the wrists. I could feel some slippage in the first few jams, but after that the gloves felt settled & secure for the rest of the route. XS would likely have been a bit better, but according to size charts, these crack gloves only go down to 7.25" circumference around the knuckle.
Felt Premium, Fit Poorly
When I first pulled these crack gloves out of the package I immediately noticed the extremely nice texture of the material. They are made out of a special type of suede according to the packaging and the quality seems apparent to me. Reminiscent of a very highly quality golf glove. Then I tried to put them on and use them. The first issue arose with the sizing. I don't have huge hands, but apparently these are sized for someone much smaller. I received a large, which is the size of glove I typically wear again, when golfing, etc. These were so small on my hand I could barely double back the velcro onto itself. The finger loops were o tight they cut of circulation to my fingers after wearing them for just a short period of time and were so tight I hand to basically peel these things off. I feel like the backing on them, which was not bad, could have benefitted from even just a little more padding. I did not find them to be particularly grippy in the cracks and they offered only modest abrasion protection for my hands. I honestly felt like they hindered me more than they helped me. I gave them to my girlfriend who has significantly smaller hands than I do and she still found the finger loops to be too tight. I could also see this being a fatal flaw because the material there is so thin, it seems fragile and likely to break. I don't know if these are intended to be a single use and disposable item, but the way the fingers are made meant that after 2-3 uses the loops began to degrade and break apart from the glove rendering them pretty much useless. Overall, the concept I think of this item is good. Maybe a version 2.0 with thicker backing, more durable finger loops and longer/better velcro at the wrist would make this a solid item for avid crack climbers. Or, I guess maybe just have smaller hands.
Works Great, Short Lifespan
Worked really good for my crack project in my gym, but I tend to keep em tight, just because I'm used to taping, and they've started to open there the strap feeds through. The opening is about large enough to allow the plastic piece that reinforces the hole to fall out. Ive only used them for less than 2 months at this point, and have used them religiously on this crack, and they've done me very well, but I am kinda disappointed by how quickly they've started to come apart.
Thin crack gloves
I received these for free to test and so far they work really well and I enjoy using them. It's nice to easily remove the gloves between climbs, which avoids wasting tape and allows your hands to cool off when you get sweaty. I foresee adding some tape around my thumb and wrist for more protection in certain crack sizes and climbing areas. They're really thin, so you'll probably want something beefier for Vedauwoo and coarse rock areas. I'm between a Small and Medium, so I'd suggest trying these on before purchasing (I have a Medium). The finger loop holes can be slightly tight, but it's what you want for jamming! Climb on!
Secure fit/feel
The fit on these is really nice, better than any other crack gloves I've tried, which makes for secure crack crack moves. However, the instructions under "Size chart" say, "Measure from the crease at the base of your wrist (on palm side) to the tip of your middle finger," which put me on the border between small and medium, so I ordered a small online, express delivery because I needed them for an impromptu Red Rocks trip. But the packaging clearly shows a dotted line going around the knuckles, which means I'm actually between medium and large! The small gloves did work for me in a pinch (ahem), though the velcro strap barely closed, and did my circulation no favors; fortunately we did mostly face at RR. I also have a friend who wants to take the small gloves off my hands (so to speak), and ordered a medium pair, which fit me better.
Light, nice fit and long lasting
At first I didn't think these gloves would last too long due to the thin material. I was wrong since they still have not ripped after a few uses. The thin and fitted design allowed me to focus on the climbing and forget that I had them on. I really like that my thumb knuckle was protected and didn't slip out of the glove. I am planning to get a second pair for the day they do start to tear since Its an affordable investment for crack climbing.
Nice Crack Gloves
I've been using the Ocun Crack Gloves for most of my crack climbing and been pretty happy with them. I was interested to try out the Black Diamond gloves because they differ in a couple of important points: they cover the back of the thumb and they cover the wrists - whereas the Ocun gloves pretty much just cover that back of the hand. I like the material of the BD gloves very much. It's soft and flexible but still protected my hand well. They're comfortable to wear and I like that they protected my wrist as they usually end up pretty scraped up. However, unlike the Ocun gloves they don't have any padding on the back and especially the knuckles. So after a while and especially the next day I had some painful swellings and my knuckles hurt quite a bit. If they had some padding on the knuckles I think they would be the perfect crack glove. That said, if you struggle with the Ocun gloves being too thick then you will love these gloves.
Grippy and comfortable
These gloves are super grippy and easy to put on and take off. The finger holes are a little tight if you have sausage fingers like me, but I expect it to stretch out a little with more use.
A Permanent Addition to my Climbing Gear
First, I will state what I love most about these gloves is how ecofriendly it is, eliminating the need for wasteful tape gloves. Because these gloves are made of a synthetic suede, they are vegan friendly, breathable and highly durable. Three bonuses in one. For performance these gloves perform just as well, not being so big as to prevent you from slipping your hands into the crack. They are form fitting and I love the rubber grip on the back. Overall, I can't help but feel as if these gloves are the next generation and are absolutely here to stay. And for an attractive price point. Now for the negatives: The gloves do run small; I would recommend sizing up. The wrist strap can be a little uncomfortable, but only as first as they do break in perfectly. I'm still giving five stars because this product absolutely excels. If you are in the market for a new pair of gloves I would look no further, you have found what you need right here
Light and Skin Tight
Excellent gloves that feel like tape or better! Nice thin material that fits snug against your skin. Only drawback is that you need to treat them with care as the finger loops can rip easier than other gloves. Also I find myself tapping the Velcro strap closed as it sometimes gets caught and opens while climbing.
