I purchased the regular size pad hoping to save a few inches from the longer version and it fits perfect for my slender 6'2"" body (My entire body fits with a couple inches to spare). I was attracted to this product based on its packed size (Easily 6"" tall by 4"" wide). I have used the pad during cool nights and was glad to have the extra warmth from the thermal material. The pads width is thin so your arms may hang over a bit; this wasn't a huge concern because I tend to be a side sleeper. For the side sleeper the pad was plenty thick (about 2 1/2"") to keep you supported and comfortable. The pad comes with two stuff sacks; one that is used to inflate the pad (I also use it as a pillow), and the other is a small sack that everything packs into.
I’m SO excited they finally came out with the regular wide. I have found all my Therm-a-rest pads to be much more reliable than other brands. My only complaint is that the weight of the regular wide was not given. I expected it to be in between the regular and the large, but was shocked to find out it weighs 1lb. 6 oz. How can it weigh more than the large which is the same width but an extra 5” longer?! I still think this pad will be valuable late fall in Washington despite the extra ounces, but as a long distance backpacker who counts every gram I was a little shocked.
I’m confused why this has so little reviews and the reviews are mediocre. This thing rocks. I don’t know what all this is about it being noisy because I really don’t see it being more noisy than any other pad. I had no issues falling off of it and if you do that could be fixed by getting a sleeping bag with a sleeve for a pad. This thing is super warm and packs down way smaller than any of my friends sleeping pads and it is also lighter. I always sleep like a baby until my girlfriend takes it from me because she’s cold and uncomfortable on whatever she was using. I love the two way valve it is ingenious and super easy to use.
It felt like I was sleeping in a heating element. I was at 8600 ft elevation last night on this pad, and nothing but a merino wool base layer and a quilt. This pad made all the difference, and I was as warm and comfortable as I could be on frozen, slushy ground. It packs easily and small, and the pump bag makes inflation easy. The one thing I don’t like is how hard it is to remove the pump bag fitting from the pad fitting. Very difficult to get on and off, and I worry I will rip the pad material. But super warm.
This pad has outstanding warmth during sub-zero winter camping trips. Incredible warmth at only a pound in weight. Comfortable enough to sleep on solid surfaces. It has the same crinkley feeling as the XLite but has a slightly more rugged feeling outer fabric - I never use it on bare ground opting to protect it with a tent floor or groundsheet. The new one-way option on the valve is very useful. I always use the included inflation bag as I've seen these air pads get nasty and degrade to a leak when filled repeatedly with humid breath. Light enough for three season use but winter capable, this is the one. Store it loose and open.
Yes it makes a little noise, but not more than your snoring tentmate or your gut trying to digest what you shoved down earlier. The xtherm pad will keep you warm all night long, which is more than you can say for your mate. Two and a half inches of thickness is enough to keep side sleepers like me as happy as a clam at high tide. I used mine on the ground and in a hammock for 800 miles (two months) of the Pacific Crest Trail. It performed with flying colors in a hammock at 20 degrees F--I wouldn't trust any other pad in a hammock at that temp. Just get one and stay warm
I bought this pad as an upgrade from my big agnes air core which I loved dearly. We all know the glorify of the packed size and weight…so I’ll dive into comfort. It’s a thin pad, but it’s UL. So you’re not gonna get something giant. It was very comfortable for me, I have broad shoulders. I love the ability to let out just a little air while laying on it to adjust it to my comfort level. It stayed inflated and did great during my two days in the black hills. I couldn’t believe that little thing insulated me so well from the cold ground. 10/10 a great product, and I’m stoked to see how it handles on longer stretches.
There is some contradictory info about the Regular Wide (RW) weight, and I just received mine and wanted to clarify... According to my scale: Pad Only - 18.58 oz (~1 lb, 2.6 oz) Stuff sack - 0.75 oz Pump sack - 1.86 oz ------------ Pad + Stuff sack - 19.33 oz (~1 lb, 3.3 oz) All three - 21.19 oz (~1 lb, 5.2 oz) Stated weight on box - 1 lb, 6 oz ------------ The stated weight for the Large pad on REI's site is incorrect, according to one review on the Thermarest site from February 2022, which states that the large weighs 695 grams (24.52 oz). The discrepancy may be due to the fact that the bottom was upgraded from 30D to 70D at some point. The Regular weight may be understated as well (at 15 oz).
I really wanted to keep this pad for winter camping because it radiates your heat back to you. However, I woke up 3 times during the night with my pad deflated.. I am very careful about my pad as this seemed quite fragile. I slept in the car and put a yoga mat under it to protect it — still leaked. I even made sure the valve was closed tight. I was really disappointed because this has the highest r -value for how light weight it is. I couldn’t figure out where the leak was coming from; did my best to protect it from any punctures. Sadly, I chose to return it because there’s nothing worse than waking up to your hip on a hard surface/ground.
Having a sleeping pad fail when the temps are 10 degree F and you are sleeping on snow can be a chilling experience. I just bought this pad after a winter trip where we had 3 different sleeping pads all side-by-side on a seriously cold night. The NeoAir Xtherm pad was by far the warmest and the valve and inflation systems functioned best relative to the others. We were happy to report that all of our other gear was warm enough but my REI Flash pad was not up to the job. It has been OK and served me well for light-weight summer trips. Looking forward to some warmer nights with this new pad.
