Attractive and light but hard to pull out bottles

These REI water bottle cages look really nice and are super lightweight and reasonably priced. However, I found them too difficult to pull the bottles out of the cage. Additionally, since the cages are made of aluminum, I found that pulling my bottles from the cage put pretty deep scratches in the bottles - Not a BIG deal, but I'd rather keep my new bottles looking good for as long as I can. I should note, I was using REI CO-OP Cyles insulated water bottles. So you would think they would check to make sure these fit well and do not damage the bottles! I will be returning these water bottle cages.

Great cage, poor paint job.

These cages are lightweight, strong, and allow you to bend the cage to accommodate larger or smaller bottles. Bottles fit tightly and do not shake loose in even the roughest terrain. That said, the paint on the cage wears off almost immediately and covers your bottles in a permanent marring that then comes off of your hands and clothing.

Good value

I put these cages on my gravel/CX bike. I like them for gravel rides because I know I won't lose a bottle, regardless of what terrain I go over. The bottles can be a little difficult to get out of the cage but you get used to it. I have had no issues with camelbak insulated bottles not being able to fit as other reviewers have noted. They are a little on the heavier side but that's fine as long as you aren't a weight watcher.

Great price, unfortunate user experience

These are workable cages if you want something quick and cheap, but the experience of using them is dissatisfying. All the bottles we have scrape on the way in and out. And since they're metal they bend and become loose and your bottle will rattle around. I would avoid these cages given our experience. I am replacing them and sad I bought them. Also, they have such a thin layer of cheap paint that it will chip off. We even chipped one just doing the installation.

secure speaker

A JBL Flip4 bluetooth speaker fits perfectly in this thing. It doesn’t move at all- even on fast, rough rides. Tunes on the trails all day long. I’ve also used mine to stuff my bathing suit in and it works pretty well to dry it out on rides too. Got one for my wife and she uses it to hold her cigar humidor tube or a Pringles can which she uses to hold snacks, toiletries, or other items. All in all, a good bottle cage.

Don't use traditional hardware to mount.

These are great cages. The are a little tight at first, but that isn't bad news. After mounting the cage simply adjust by spreading a little. The holes for mounting hardware is shallow, so if you mount with standard hardware it will scratch or scuff your bottle. Use flush Philips or Flathead bolts and you're good to go. It worked for me. I had some skateboard hardware lying around that did the job perfectly. Happy riding! Stay safe. Stay hydrated.

Too hard to remove water bottle from cage

The cage does a good job of gripping the water bottle from the sides. But the "tongue" at the top of the cage made it so that pulling the water bottle out of the cage ended up scraping the water bottle along the top edges of the side arms of the cage. So it was too much effort to pull the bottle from the cage just to get a drink, which is a problem when you're biking and just want a quick and easy drink. This also scratched my water bottle over time each time I pulled it out of the cage. I'm surprised not many other reviewers are saying this. But I think I was using the right water bottle - it was a standard sized REI biking bottle. Anyway, if this hadn't been an issue, it would be a good cage: it didn't rattle, didn't weigh much, and looked pretty sleek.
