My fav!!!
Upgraded from a older Osprey Porter which has been Goto travel back here in the US. I was looking forward to the relocation of the laptop sleeve, which I thought dropped in closest to the back, but this actually has a back/side zipper which is awesome. Like my older Porter, I plan on using this pack for most of my weekend vacation trips and extended overseas travel. Also like the inside straps for compression of inside stuff. Top zippered pocket seem larger.
Bring back the nylon!
The new 2021 version is terrible. The main compartment is overtaken by the liquids pouch on top of the bag since the main zipper tapers down. This leaves you with a larger outer pocket and less volume in the main area. The outer fabric is horrible—a scratchy material that collects dust and pet hair the second you un-box/bag it. If you see it in store, look at it and see if it already has dust/dirt from basic handling. Please, Osprey, bring back the 2020 version! You can wipe off (easily disinfect) nylon! I can’t believe you took it off the market that quickly to “upgrade” with inferior recycled material.
Missing only a few details
Quality is top notch. This bag is super comfortable and relatively well designed. The interior holds more than I originally thought. The design of this bag allowed me to carry it on, and shove it in an overhead compartment, on a Bombardier CRJ-900 (American Eagle flight). The laptop sleeve is large enough for my MacBook M1 16" and is well padded. Here are my criticisms: 1) The two pockets inside the main compartment are too small to be really useful; 2) The zippers can be hard to use even when the straps are undone; 3) The main compartment is not especially good for folded clothes (e.g., dress shirts); 4) The pocket at the top is virtually useless if the main compartment is full; 5) The secondary compartment is superficially well designed, but doesn't work for its intended purpose (office supplies? There are two pen pockets sewn in). For instance, the padded pocket for smaller devices (e.g., an iPad) can accommodate an iPad, but the padding doesn't extend above the zipper on the pocket.
Favorite Travel Bag
Bought the REI Outlet version on sale which by some of the reviews seemed to be the pre-2021 version. The fabric is great and easy to clean and sheds light water (it lightly rained in Colorado and my items stayed dry). Walking with this bag for miles was comfy and the compression ability definitely helped. This bag even fully packed fit in the small commuter plane from DEN to COS under the seat (straps tucked away) and surprised the crew each time. Laptop in a slim case, sandwiched between compression packing cubes of clothes worked just fine. Used on staycations with a toddler and longer hikes—still looks new! If you can grab an older version, would definitely recommend.
Great Backpack!
We went to Portugal from the USA. I’m female and 65. My daughter said no suitcases, only one back pack. I had shoulder surgery last year so was concerned about hoisting a back pack and carrying it. Also was concerned how I would fit everything.I watch a video of this one and decided to purchase the Osprey. I love how everything is snug and zippers hidden. I fit more than enough in it! Easy to lift and carry, especially with the waist strap. Highly recommend it!!
Best Airline Carry On
I bought this travel pack, since it was the largest airline carry on approved bag I could find online. I have enjoyed Osprey products in the past. This was no exception! My son was able to carry the bag and all of his belongings for a 7 day whitewater rafting trip on the Green River in Utah. He lived out of this bag for all 7 days with plenty of space to spare. Being he could not check a bag for the trip, it was important for us to find a large carry on bag that was functional and large. I have considered buying a second one. Just the right size with many handy compartments that are fully usable. It is a fantastic bag. I would highly recommend it.
Great, Comfortable Bag
I just travelled for about 3 weeks in Europe by plane, train and automobile. This bag held up well and was pretty comfortable the whole way. I was able to carry plenty of clothes with some travel cubes. I would definitely recommend this bag.
Best backpack for Greece
I took this bad boy to Greece for 2.5 weeks and fit most everything I needed in it. This pack fits in the overhead bins on Aegean Airlines, even with a lightly packed Osprey Daylite daypack (also highly recommended) attached to it via the loops on the Porter. My fully loaded Porter was way over the 8 kg carry on limit, but I was never asked to check it for any of the 6 one way Aegean flights we took. My husband on the other hand, was voluntold by the gate agents to check his conventional rollaboard every time. Using the Porter for my carryon was also helpful flying Aegean because they use stairs instead of a jet bridge to board and deplane. The Porter also came in handy for some of our accommodations where we had to walk our luggage over cobblestones and up narrow, winding staircases. All in all, I was very pleased with my purchase!
No checked bags...
This travel pack was perfect for a 10 day trip to Europe, and it fit in the overhead compartment nicely, even on the way back!
The best Travel Pack
My Osprey 46 Travel Pack has been the best bag on multiple, long adventures with me over the last decade. 2 months around India on trains, trekking into the mountains in Nepal, city adventures in Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. This is the best bag I've ever had and I would buy another....but my first is only 10 years old and still ready for more trips.
