This is a really nice day pack. Well thought-out and well designed. If you you were going super light you could use it for an overnighter in warm weather. It has one main compartment with a couple of mesh and nylon separators and a separate compartment for the batter. The bladder compartment has a little hook to hang bladder from which is a nice feature. I did think it felt a little small for a 26 liter bag when the bladder is completely full and I would have liked a couple more loops on the exterior to hang some gear if needed. The straps and waist belt are super comfortable plus have some convenience pockets which I found to be pretty useful. Overall this is a great little pack, I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a versatile day pack.
This pack is very well designed for strenuous day hikes, such as (as the name implies) hiking a 14er. It strikes just the right balance between useful features and light weight. The air support lumbar and shoulder cushions lift the bag off your back and provide ventilation along the curve of your back. Even with about 20 pounds of gear in the pack, I felt a good deal of ventilation, which was much appreciated during strenuous (i.e. sweaty) hiking. The main compartment is a zippered top loader that is roomy enough for all the gear you'd need for a day hike. It has several pockets for sub-organization. Between the main compartment and your back is another zippered compartment that houses the 3L water bladder. This compartment is one of my favorite features, as it has extra layers of padding/insulation and is big enough not just for a large bladder but also food/drink/etc that you may want to keep cool or better protected. On the outside of the bag there's a zippered, felt-lined pocket that I used for phone/keys/wallet, and an elastic pocket that's perfect for stuffing a puffy or rain jacket for easy access. Near the bottom there are two loops specifically designed for trekking poles. I used z-poles and telescoping poles, which both seemed to work fine here. There's a pocket on the right side sized perfectly for a 32 oz nalgene. Lastly, the two hip belts have easy to access storage for small items with an open top elastic pocket on the right and a zippered pocket on the left. At the end of the day, you want a pack that's comfortable, lightweight, and holds all your gear in easily accessible locations. This pack checked all those boxes for me. I plan to use this as my go-to pack for bagging 14ers this season.
Backpack is is pretty sweet. It has tons of storage even when full with water and the "air support" back support works well to keep your back from getting swamped in sweat. I know it is not designed as a fly fishing backpack, but, it works great as one, especially when you have to hike in somewhere. The bottom support strap pockets hold fly boxes, tools, etc.and the pack has two spots on either side of the shoulder strap that work great to connect zingers, hemos, etc.. Also, the mouth piece gives you a ton of water so you don't have to be like a hamster with that water bottle thing. I have an Osprey skiing backpack I am used to and the first time I drank from the Camelbak I had water coming out of my nose because the flow was so much greater.
This backpack is built for small framed people and doesn’t feel very sturdy. I’m 6’4”. The shoulder straps are cutting into my neck instead of resting on my shoulders. It’s that narrow! Oh and the opening for the main compartment is tiny. Unfortunately this is the replacement I was sent when my discontinued pack finally wore out. I called customer service and they told me not to complain because it’s a free backpack. Camelbak is not what it used to be. I used to love them.
This pack replaced a four year old Camelbak, and the 100 oz capability was the primary attraction. The back design with the bumps for airflow is wonderful for hot weather. The pouch on the belt is great to store an extra bottle of frozen water. The pack seems a bit too large relative to the reservoir, where the drinking tube does not extend enough out of the pack. I find myself having to bend my neck awkwardly to drink. Worst of all, the reservoir compartment has a single zipper, not a double zipper. This is a major design flaw: the bag zips clumsily from one side, and long term reliance on a single zipper takes away the confidence one should have on long hikes. Double zippers are such a basic feature of quality packs, it is astounding that it was over looked for the Fourteener. So there are good things about this pack, but unfortunately a few important features will disappoint you.
I really like this pack. Bought it for both myself and wife to wear. I'm 5'6 and she is 5'2 both of us find this pack very comfortable. we took it to Sequoia for our first trip with it. did 8 - 13 miles a day. pack was awesome. the hose and hydration pack system was amazing! love the little handle on the water bladder - it makes filling it a breeze
This a great bag with the quality of Camelbak that is expected. It is a bit small on a larger frame guy like me but it definitely doesn’t give me a “first day of school” vibe. Overall I am very happy with my purchase!
I love the backpack function … unfortunately, the bladder seems to leak at the cap site. Makes a mess when I take the pack off and lay it down. Ran out of water on my double 14er yesterday when I lost 1+ L.
Nice pack, good size, probably good ventilation, but since it sets on 4 points on your back on hard foam it was uncomfortable for me. Skarab 30 much better
I like the backpack. It isn't real heavy material, but after a week of use it's fine. It's deep. I have a weird custom use for it. It'll work fine.
