In a backcountry ski crash I was wearing this helmet and went head over heels and broke both bones in one of my arms. I also hit my head really hard and cracked and crumbled the helmet in several places. The MIPS inner thing activated and I had no head injury. Based on my arm recovery time and general whiplash in my neck I am so grateful my head had no injuries. I’m sure any helmet with MIPS would have also worked but nonetheless I can highly recommend this one. I’m back biking and got the exact model again replaced by REI. Plus I do really like the magnetic clip.
I replaced my old Bell helmet with this model. I wanted the MIPS technology. Although slightly larger in volume, the new Bontrager is no heavier. The M/L fits well, and the tightening system works as expected. Adjustments are easy I use a clip on mirror that fits onto the visor, and the rear vision is better than the position on the old Bell. The chin strap clasp is magnetic, and that required some learning to fasten it (impossible to see under chin). Learning accomplished, though. I got the day-glo yellow, which is really bright.
This helmet saved my Sons life yesterday , he is resting and taking it easy with a concussion and some scrapes and bruises but his head is in tact. the helmet did its job and then some. it may not look like much but that would have been his head. 10/10 would recommend. thanks.
I was wearing this helmet when a car struck my bike’s rear tire at 30-35 MPH. I had a trip to the Trauma Center and 4 nights in a hospital, but no injuries to my head or face. Since it worked so well, I will be buying another.
I have only had my Solstice MIPS helmet for a few weeks, but I am very pleased with it. I haven't yet worn it in the summer so I can't speak to how it would feel in hot weather, but it seems to be well ventilated. I think this is a good price for a MIPS helmet. I like the visor and I especially like the magnetic chin strap buckle - it is very quick & easy to unsnap with one hand. The helmet is comfortable and the M/L size fits my 7 1/4 baseball-cap-size head very well. The variety of colors is a nice feature. I would recommend this helmet to my cycling friends.
Great MiPS helmet for the value. Had an old cycling helmet which was a decade old so searched for new one. Found this MiPS helmet at REI. Bought online not seen or tried in store. Got the luminous yellow one as wanted large size as know I have a big head. Arrived quickly , free shipping, very well packed and took out for cycle . This helmet is heavier than my old knee, but at the same time it really feels that this would protect my head in a fall or accident. The construction is substantial and the chin strap is a little cumbersome at first but easy to get used to. It's MiPS standard so a big improvement over my old one. I feel safe, a little extra weight but if you are going to wear a helmet , this one is great . A good one.
Light and comfortable. I like the magnetic chin strap clasp. But most of all, it provides good protection. I had a bike accident recently where I landed hard on my head and side on the pavement. Broke my clavicle and a few ribs. But no concussion symptoms. The ER doc said the helmet saved me from a severe head injury. Plus, if you crash within a year of purchase, you can get the helmet replaced for free. I wouldn't recommend this as a way to get your helmet replaced though.
I was wearing my Solstice MIPS helmet when I got hit by a car last week and I'm here to tell you about it.
Overall, really love the magnetic latch and reasonable price. However, the plastic dial thing that helps you adjust the helmet to your head size is a bit on the narrower side. So even though my head has more than enough clearance for the M/L (I measure at 58 cm), I was getting a headache and pressure to my temples after more than 30 min of riding with the helmet on nonstop. Will probably have to return these which is a shame because I seriously love the magnetic latch system. Obviously head shapes are different for everyone so I suggest you try it out first if you can before buying.
I bought this for my boyfriend who is visually impaired and uses his bike in conjunction with public transportation to get around town. I want others to see him and this is an easy way to help that without asking him to wear additional gear like a vest or jacket (which he won't remember to do!). It had been at least ten years since he had bought a new helmet and he said he was impressed with how well this fit on his head. He said he felt like his head was better protected/supported and that the technology had come quite a ways.
