Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

A perfect blend of casual and technical
I rarely review clothing - but I do REALLY like these - I HATE my body / legs in shorts, but I hate even more to wear pants on a bike. I just picked up mtn biking in 2020 and was hesitant to shell out a bunch of $$$ on things I may never use again. Fortunately, love the sport. But these shorts are casual enough to wear hiking / other outdoor rec. They fit perfectly over my chamois and don't have that diaper butt effect. Super breathable, stretchy, moveable fabric. Not "feminine" but also not 12-yr-old boy stylings.
Good fit, smart pockets.
For REI brand, I'm usually a size 4 or "small". About 5' 6" and 135 lbs. So I got a pair of these, size 4, and the fit was great. Maybe a touch loose over the belt, but that's fine when leaning over on a bike (and there are belt loops, if needed). I love the two zipper hand pockets, and FYI, they go WAY deeper than what the photo shows. Essentially to the bottom of the shorts. Well done, REI. Women love real pockets.
Awesome shorts!!
These shorts are fantastic. The material is nice, stretchy and durable, as well as quick-dry. The inseam is the perfect length so they don't ride up when you are walking or biking. The pockets are deep and zippered which is great. The best part is the waistband--and it is not uncommon for me to have issues with things gapping at the waist. This waistband is high-rise so there is no crack action when you bend down or are biking. It is smooth and comfortable, and I did not experience any gapping. As per usual, REI sizing runs a little small (in my experience) but it is consistent throughout all their co-op brand clothing so if you know your REI sizes, you will be fine. I am 5'7", 150lbs with an athletic build and the 8 fits perfectly.
Great All Around Short
I'm about 120 lbs and tend to carry my weight in my stomach so I'm usually very wary of waistbands being too tight especially for activewear. I'm typically a size 6 or size 8, but the size 4 fits me comfortably with enough room and stretch to spare without being too loose even with a padded liner short underneath. Highly recommend sizing down if you're on the fence about what size to get. I'd been looking for mountain biking shorts for a while but didn't like how long and baggy most of the other styles were. The length is just right and doesn't sacrifice any functionality because theses shorts still have nice deep pockets that easily and securely fit my phone. The leg opening is also perfect because it's slim enough to be flattering when standing without being constricting when pedaling. Sizing weirdness aside, these are a 10/10 for me.
Bummer stops at size 14!
I like the stretch and material, but I wanted a loose fit- only went to size 14 and I needed a 16.Dissapointed! I was going to wear them for all my outdoor sports: biking, hiking, and Pickleball!
Great basic bike short! And not too long
These are the first pair of designated shorts for biking that I've owned and I've really like them so far! The zippered pockets are great and fit my iPhone 11 pretty well (definitely takes up most of the pocket but not hard to close the zipper). Size wise, I'm 5'7 and 130 lbs so pretty slender and they do stretch out after a ride especially in the waist, I would go down a size if a 2 was available - I got a 4 - but I just throw on a belt and it works fine. Otherwise, for the price and everything they are great and I highly recommend!
Great shorts, flattering cut
These shorts would have gotten 5 stars had they not had a considerable gap at the waist band, but, I know that if I would have sized down they would have been too tight on my legs. They are a flattering cut, not too tight in the thigh, good material, and the hardware feels like good quality. I'm going to have to invest in a belt for MTB shorts because they all seem to fit me this way. I have a 31 inch waist but I'm large in the derrière and thighs. I ordered a size 12, based on the sizing chart provided.
Stretched out
Really wanted to love them because there are many positives! Really comfortable material and I love that they sit a bit higher on my hips and aren't as long as most bike shorts. Love all of the pockets. The material is stretchy which is great but also bad - they have stretched out way too much in the waist. They usually fit well after a wash but will immediately get stretched out after one downhill run and I am stuck constantly pulling them up the rest of the day. A belt might fix this but the material might get all bunched and uncomfortable underneath a hip pack, and I personally do not want to wear a belt while biking. I am about 5'8" and 140lb athletic build and I went with the size 4. Sadly had to return but would buy again in a heart beat if they made a smaller size/adjustable waist band.
Zippers
These shorts are so comfortable, but I have had two pair and both had zipper breaks, on opposite pockets.
Just what i was looking for.
Great shorts, highly recommend. I don’t like the look of long mtn bike shorts and other shorts have not been cutting it. This one is so comfy and allows for full range of motion. No weird rubbing. Great zippered pockets! My knee pads tuck up underneath nicely. True to size.
