Very comfortable and didn't need any breaking in, other than that I put in Superfeet insoles because I have plantar fasciitis. I've stood in a small stream doing trailwork in them, and worn them during rainstorms, and so far my feet have stayed dry. One of the lacing hooks went flying when I laced them up during one camping trip and I couldn't reinstall it; fortunately I could skip that hook and the boot was still comfortable. When I returned them to REI because of that defect I got another pair, because I presume that was a fluke.
Wide fits well and has great arch support with plenty of room to fit a bunion.
4th attempt at a WATERPROOF hiker that can walk through morning dew-covered paths without soaking my feet. This fit and needed no breaking in. Had it right at a month when I was able to walk in puddles and wet grass. BOTH SHOES FAILED at the textile tongue. Danner said it was defective, I asked if it was a defective DESIGN because both failed. Instead of gambling, i'm trying a different Danner this week. Boots have to keep my feet dry.
Aesthetically, I LOVE the look of this boot especially the blue laces and really appreciate the toe guard with how many rocks I've accidently punted on my hikes!! It feels super durable and stable with rugged grip. Initially when I put on the boot, it felt like it fit like a glove. I do have foot problems so my review may be a moot point or may help others with the same struggles. My sports injuries have caught up to me, I also have an almost 2 cm neuroma, and inherited my mom's bunions. With that said, over time (walked around my house for a few full days), the high-top just did not hit my foot right and really agitated my ankle. Also, because I chose the wide width, ironically, the extra spacing between the toes and top of the boot creased in such a way that it rubbed the top of my toes when bent and causing annoying discomfort. This is a great boot, but unfortunately, not good for my foot. It is what it is and I'm sure it works excellent for other people.
