I bought the Bunk House 6 after much research in March 2022 with the footprint and tarp poles. I finally used it last week for a 4 night truck camping trip. It is perfect for 2. The Bunk House 6 held up well to a windy and pounding rainstorm. The vestibule allows a staging area before entering the tent. I am very pleased with my purchase.
With so little information out about this tent we were so excited to set it up. Surprised by the amount of pockets and corner shelves - truly we cannot quit singing praises of our new tent.... and the welcome mat warms my heart.
After looking for a tent for a family of four for weeks we decided to buy the bunkhouse 6 despite the lack or reviews. We did our first car camping trip (4 days) and loved it. It endured torrential rain from 8pm to 3pm (we forgot to check the weather and had storm Laura on top of us). The spacious interior made it very easy for us to stay indoors during the storm and have our small kids entertained. We even had breakfast indoors. The tent did not move despite the awful weather although some minor condensation did occur on the inside. Overall very surprised it survived the storm. The mudroom is great, we slept the first day with it opened and were able to fit q lot of our equipment (chairs, etc) inside during the storm.
Got this to compare to the Big House 6 that I got on sale 6 months prior with the idea that if I didn’t absolutely love it, I would take it back. Well, I will definitely be keeping this! PROS: The rain fly extends out several feet from the entry way to provide a covered entryway. This is really amazing. Not only does it give you a covered place outside your tent to leave wet shoes and things like that, it also means that you can leave the door to the tent open in a storm without worrying about water getting in. This prevents the brutally hot nights without any air flow. As for air flow, this tent has a lot more mesh than other similarly sized tents I have tried. It definitely does not get as hot as most tents and both doors have a huge window with a zip cover to allow more air. The backpack style storage case makes it really easy to just stuff the tent and fly back in without having to precisely fold it all back up. The whole thing can be taken down and put away in less than ten minutes. CONS: All upright tents are unstable in the wind but this one is by far the most unstable. Be prepared to use every stake to secure it. This makes it really difficult to put up by yourself even in moderate wind. It does not have as many media pockets as other tents. I believe this is because it has more mesh for air flow so it’s a trade off. There are pockets in the corners but they do not extend along the sides of the tent like other similar tents. I’ll take the extra air over the pockets but I do miss the extra storage.
Plenty of room. I really enjoyed the large entry vestibule option. At the time, I didn't have poles to extend it outward and had to use cord to tie the ends to a tree but it worked! We kept dry in the rain and it provided a cleaner, dryer space to hang out. We discovered the next morning there was a decent dip that formed under the tent which allowed water to pool underneath but no water soaked through! Comfortable in the rain and summer. I'm looking forward to using it again for the upcoming camping season.
Simply the best tent I have ever owned. It has survived severe storms with no leaks thanks to the full coverage fly. Without the fly, the views at night are incredible. Setup is a breeze
