Upon seeing the average reviews for this harness I thought it apt to provide an alternative perspective to the negative reviews here. Been using this harness for the last two years on everything from multi pitch ice to sandstone big-walling and can confidently say, this is a great harness. Very comfortable belaying, hanging, hiking in, climbing in etc. Even the gear loops have survived my unhealthy habit of the wide. The ONLY gripe I have is, it would be wonderful if we could get some larger gear loops. They’ve always been enough for me (even on longer aid routes) but wouldn’t it be nice? (Edelrid, let me know if you need some design ideas;) The fifth gear loop in the back is a saving grace and IMHO should be standard for every harness. Bottom line, this harness has not gotten the credit it deserves as a good-great harness, there’s always ROOM (bigger gear loops pls) for improvement! After desperately looking for a different harness to try
Poor Gear Loop Functinality.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who had issues with the gear loops. I'll echo what others have said. - Rear gear loops are moved back too far and overlap with the 5th loop. Makes them hard to access and makes the 5th loop far less functional. There's a gap between the front and rear loops, so they could've moved the rear ones forward a full inch. - Gear loops are fairly small - I find that the leg loops ride quite high and squish my crotch in a very uncomfortable way.
Best Harness I've Owned Yet
Very comfortable harness, love the adjustable leg loops! I don't trad so can't speak to this harness' strengths or weaknesses there, but as a top rope and sport harness this rules. I work at a climbing gym and after many months of wear climbing and working it has held up remarkably well. Little to no signs of wear, much better than my black diamond solution did, but who knows different circumstances. easy to put phone in and out of pocket at the crag and just tighten your leg loop over top of it so it won't fall out. Plenty of room for all of your rappel setup, draws, and as many belay devices as your arsenal contains.
Excellent all-around harness, quiver-of-one
This is an excellent all-around harness: lightweight, full-featured, reasonably comfortable, durable, sustainable materials. You can't go wrong. Edelrid hit the sweet spot here while optimizing across a variety of factors. It's not as light as my dedicated mountaineering harness or as comfortable as a dedicated sport climbing harness, but I've taken it on all kinds of trips and been very happy with it. If you're looking for a quiver-of-one harness, this is it.
Too small gear loops!
I want to double what was said above. Here are my main complaints: - gear loops a small and do not protrude enough - rear loops are moved back too much, so you have to turn your head way too back to see what's there - belt end overlaps with rear gear loop. Holes fixing tail end are too small to be operated conveniently Small gear loops are a real curse - they do not protrude enough, therefore it's difficult to place gear on rear loops blindly, clothes get in the way often and sometimes are jammed by carabiner gate. This happened in the summertime when I was wearing T-shirt only, but in the winter with some puffy underneath things would get even worse. I was disappointed cause I bought the harness to use it throughout the year when I need caritools. All in all it seems like another Edelrid product which was not properly field-tested prior to market release.
A miss for me
This is a very comfortable harness with a lot of features. However, there are 2 major problems that made me return it. The gear loops are too narrow and they are placed really weirdly. There is a gap between each par of gear loops on each side to accommodate an ice clipper. The result is that there is some dead space around your harness. Combined with the narrow gear loops, this makes it such that you can miss a gear loop when you go to place gear back on your harness if you aren't being super careful. I am not a clumsy person. I have been climbing for years. I have never missed so many clips reracking in my life. Also, the top hardpoint of the harness is really uncomfortable. It twists down in a way that makes it lumpy and when you are standing it digs in uncomfortably. This might work for you. Try it on in stores. try and clip 5 quickdraws into one of the rear gear loops on your non dominant side and see how that works for you. Normally I am a big Edelrid fan and I was looking forward to using this, but it just doesn't work for me.
Not my favorite harness
I bought this harness as an all around and trad harness. I was really stoked for the 5th gear loop in the back. After climbing with it all summer, I've bought a new Black Diamond harness and made this a sport climbing harness. Here are a couple quick notes. 1. The gear loops are small. They don't extend down as far as others 2. The back gear loops are set further back than a normal harness. They are harder to access. 3. The harness isn't that comfortable. The lumbar support is narrow and the leg loops are more webbing than padding. Its not comfortable for multi-pitch climbing.
Uncomfortable pressure point on back of thigh
Really loved this harness on paper, plus it looks really nice, but once I actually tried hanging on it there was a painful pressure point on the back of each thigh. I’m not sure why as there is no extra material there or anything so YMMV.
Good have been a great harness
Gear loops are way off, right front gear loop is where the back should be. Eventually bought larger size and gear loops finally work, but have noticable gap at max tightness. Sad because it's super comfortable, easy to get on/off, made hanging belays better, and backpack friendly
